I would echo what has been said above. I was a recent victim of a significant firearm loss. I was able to produce Serial #'s and receipts for all of them, but it took some work on a couple. I learned the hard way my record keeping wasn't quite what it should be. I now have receipts (the paper), scans of the receipts, Serial numbers recorded, photos of both the gun and the serial #'s. I keep paper files and computer copies. I also decided it doesn't hurt to have receipts of all the goodies that you keep in your range bag as well.
