This the latest I have gotten from the WFAA website.

"Man sought in slaying outside of restaurant
Dallas police have a murder warrant for 18-year-old Malcolm Loren Hickson, accused in the fatal shooting of a man in a Dairy Queen parking lot near the Carrollton border last week.

Investigators believe Hickson shot Leonard Hugh Richardson, 27, in front of his mother in a parking lot in the 3400 block of Rosemeade Parkway near Marsh Lane on the evening of May 25.

Police said Richardson parked his vehicle in the lot just before 7:15 p.m., possibly to go to a nearby apartment complex.

He observed a dispute among some people already in the lot and apparently tried to defuse the situation.

Several people are believed to have beaten Richardson before someone shot him in the head and chest.

Anyone with information on Hickson can call the Dallas police homicide unit at 214-671-3661 or e-mail homicide@dpd.dallascityhall.com.

Yeah. I think a few years back Dallas lead the nation in murders one year. Maybe it was per 100k? Some of those people have moved a little bit north and some of the displaced from Katrina have stuck around. But, I suppose it could be in the suburb of just about any large city. Look at Chicago. I guess that LEO is lucky the guy didn't shoot him in the head with his own gun.

I took a few minutes to look this up and don't think it was the murder rate. I think it was overall crime, but still can't determine which year. Anyway, ...

That specific area of Carrollton has a lot of section 8 low income housing.. Around the time of hurricane katrina many folks moved to that area.. I remember my dad talking about how many people were now walking all over the place and how gross it seemed..(he traveled to and from work via Midway).. A real armpit of a decent town..

I can vouch for what you dad says about the area. I just moved from that area about 10 days before that incident happened. I moved up to the North Dallas area from South Dallas and it reminded me of home. That is a shame considering North Dallas is supposed to be a better area than South. One of the reasons I moved was due to the "gated" complex I was living in was no longer secure and a lot of daytime breakins were being reported.

The same thing seems to be happening anywhere there are a large concentration of apartments. These places start out being nice but as owners change they get desperate to fill empty units. The gubbamint free cheese express pays the rent and Darnell, the degenerate pimp from New Orleans moves right in with his crack pipe. They could not care less what kind of scum they move into these places. Rent is guaranteed by Uncle Sam.
