Unfortunately this sounds a lot like APD to me. We had someone break into a house in my neighborhood, the alarm went off for 25 minutes before the cops actually showed up. When they finally showed up they just stood there staring at the house like they were completely lost. None of them wanted to go in first. It was pretty pathetic.

Just my thought, but doesn't the Castle doctrine allow him to carry a gun on his "own" property (I assume he's renting).

Well, hello all. I have not been online to the forum for a while.
I appreciate all your comments on this situation.

The neighbor he was talking with when the AK guy appeared just kind of
freaked and didn't help my son while he was tussling with the BG. He did
call 911, but I'm also assuming that someone else in the area called as soon
as the 2 rounds were fired.

My son is now second-guessing himself about letting the guy go, and worrying
about retaliation. He's not sure he'd recognized the guy's face if he sees him
somewhere. For at least a few weeks the BG is going to be pretty beat up.

My son is renting, but he was standing on the neighbor's lawn about 3 houses down
from his place. So the Castle Doctrine would not appear to apply. He had just gotten
set up with his new contact lenses and was glad to have them, because if he had been
wearing his eyeglasses they would have been destroyed quickly in the fight. Then he
would have felt even more disoriented.

I am leaving today (Tuesday, 6/9), driving 220 miles down to Austin, then maybe 238
miles to East Texas. His mother's got acreage and we can shoot outside without any
interference from the local LEO's. His mother is going to lend him her 20 gauge shotgun,
plus I'm going to bring my 9mm and plenty of ammo. He's never shot a handgun before.
Never shot a shotgun before either, but he needs to because that will be his home defense
weapon. Shooting my Taurus will just round out his firearms knowlege to include the basics
of a semi-auto handgun.

Then I bring him back to Austin Wed night and then I come home to Lewisville. 916 miles when
all is said and done, minimum.

Just got off the phone with him. We're going to Georgetown Caverns before we head to Nacogdoches.

Thanks, for the update and I hope you have a good and safe trip. I am glad to hear your son will have a shotgun for home defence.

Glad he is going to have some protection around the house.

I think for a while I would ask the neighbor to come over to my house for a little while.

Have a safe journey! And teach him to shoot well.

(sounds like a candidate for a CHL)

Update on my trip: 966 miles covered in 46 hours!!
Lewisville--->Austin--->Nacogdoches--->Austin--->Lewisville.

The shotgun my ex lent my son is a Remington 870, 20 gauge.

He shot the shotgun with both slugs and <birdshot? further ammo
data unknown since I didn't read the boxes>. Considering that he
had never shot before, he was very accurate with the slugs.

We only shot 50 rounds total with my Taurus, but he was happy to
blast some off.

My ex's husband has another shotgun and some compound bows.
He had a 30.06 rifle but sold it to someone with more gunsmithing
knowledge than himself since he felt it needed a new barrel.

I did not know until this most recent trip that he had been able to
pick up a Taurus PT-145, 10 shot .45 caliber, but this was not brought
out to shoot during the shotgun-and-PT111 session. I really wanted to
shoot his since it's a weapon I'm considering.
