My truck was actually stolen and found stripped later

there is a BIG difference between a repo and a theft

Yep and it sucks when it happens and they don't leave much. Mine was stolen and stripped. I thought it had been accidentally towed by the people that manage the parking lot because I couldn't read the slot number to find out where to put the money and might have put it in the wrong one. The officer that responded told me that if it was towed it would have been reported to them and that was why he initially considered it stolen. They found it the next morning. Fortunately the insurance company totaled mine out and I was able to replace it. What was really annoying was that almost exactly a year later someone broke into the new one and stole a lot of stuff from it. I was on an out of town business trip so my company laptop and other things were in it. For that I got an alarm that locks out the ignition, had the key lock removed from the driver's door (the others don't have one), and installed a console vault. http://www.consolevault.com/ The nice thing about these is you can't tell there is one and it is a great place to lock a firearm as well. Hopefully it makes a next time a bit less likely.
OT - But after going to see mine at the impound and seeing what was missing - I found the perp selling my stuff on craigslilst. It was relatively uncommon model of truck. In 30 min i had his name, phone number and address. - Cops 2 days later picked him up for possession of stolen property. Proving to the cops what i found and how I found it wasnt easy. Heck just getting to talk to a human at DPD wasnt easy. And now 2 + years later Ive received 2 restitution checks ( still owes me 3/4 of my deductible ) since he is out on probation.

Ins totaled the truck.
Needless to say I dont buy stuff from Criagslist

Wow, very cool. I searched for about 2 months for my stuff on there and eBay, but never saw any of it. At least what was stolen from the truck the second go around. The first time I didn't have much in it, they just wanted the interior. Apparently they like the King Ranch leather. Another guy had his at the impound when I met the adjuster there. His had all of the Harley interior stuff stolen and they replace it with the XL seats, door panels and carpet. How is that for freaky. LOL.

This was the interior after they recovered it.

There are apartments that actually care enough to do anything about that?
yes many of them do. If you live in an apt complex that does not do anything about it, all you have to do is start calling your local code enforcement office and they WILL start putting heat on the apts to do something about it.

Haven't lived in one in about 6 years, but one complex had a lot of people who parked in the fire lanes. Even the upstairs neighbor's bulk purchases of brake fluid didn't have much of an effect on that.

Not to mention DOLLIES are great for the all wheel drive vehicles. It only takes another 2 minutes to put them on and go.

My interior looked very similar. They took the wheels and tires and pounded on junk tires held with one or 2 lugs. Then drove the 400+ HP truck to dump it , while sitting on a metal folding chair. For a while I wished that they had gone joy riding and lost control and wrapped it around a tree.

The undoing for the perp was stealing the tailgate - the PD wanted to know how I could prove that the stuff on CL was mine - I told them the key in my pocket would open the tailgate lock.

Since they had all my home info, the expereince was one of the BIG reasons I took the CHL class - I was on high alert for about 3 months after that and would have preferred to be able to carry legally.

I know it doesnt look like it but that truck made over 500 ftlbs of torque at the rear wheels

They stuck wrong size junk rims on with one or 2 lug nuts and then drove it to somewhere to dump it

I know is wrong but I was wishing they had decided to "get on it once" while driving that way - would have been sad to see them wrapped around a pole somewhere
