If you use your dominant eye only that piece of glass is useless.

Why do you say that?

because, when using dominant eye only, the field of depth will be infinite (what is device is trying to accomplish). Basically, the brain will drop 3D view and revet to 2D and hence the brain will see a flat focus world.

I think you have "depth of field" confused with something else. All lenses, including those in your eyes, have a "focal length" although the ones in your eyes have a fascinating variability that we could only wish existed in cameras. The focal length determines the distance to best focus, and the aperture determines the amount of distance between acceptable focus points, sharp enough resolution, and that distance is "Depth of field."

That is a really poor explanation, but the long form takes an entire class day and more.

Here's another way to consider it - a camera with only one lens, whether fixed focus or variable, still has depth of field, and so does a single eye.
