Thanks guys....really. I always tell people who ask, since I was knee-high to a grasshopper all I ever wanted to do was join the Navy and see the world. I spent six years in the Navy and never set foot on a ship. All my duty was shore-based signals intelligence work on the east coast. I never even left the North American continent.
As far as shooting a handgun goes, my friend, Brian, and I went to the Garland Shooting Range last Saturday. We shot his Glock 19, SW 99 and Springfield XD as well as his AR-15. I did pretty well with the AR-15, putting two in the center and grouping the rest around the bullseye (50 yds). My best handgun was the Glock, but I managed to hit the circles with all three at 15 yds. So I'm not too worried about the firing range part of the class. It's all that book larnin that has me sweatin.

I find that out of the 3 or so gun forums I follow on any sort of regular basis, this one has the most friendly and helpful folks and the least attitude out of any of them. You'll always be able to find an answer to any questions you have here.

As long as you pay attention in class, you should do fine.
Personally, I think the test is really too easy.
Most of the questions (multiple choice format) can be correctly answered by using good ole fashioned common sense.

Or, you can create your own acronyms: IANARS = I am not a rocket surgeon / INAGS = I am not a gun smith / etc.
IANAL is the one you'll most see often posted by those who gravely fear being mistaken for lawyers. (as if...)
You may want to post something similar at the end of ALL your posts, cuz hey, if you discuss the weather or something similar you may be sued for practicing unlicensed meteorology.

Just checked USA1's rather extensive list, but
here's a few more that weren't on there:
BBQ gun - This is a good looking handgun that you would
open carry to a barbeque in order to show it off to your friends.
But of course OC (open carry) is not legal in Texas.
BT - Ballistic Tupperware, referring to polymer/plastic guns,
as opposed to 3 pound, all-steel 1911's which pull your pants
off of you if you don't have a heavy duty gunbelt.
EBR - Evil Black Rifle. This can be any long gun that will
get an anti upset. Anti = Gun control advocate.
FAM - Federal Air Marshals, who ride on airlines. They carry
Sig Sauers in .357.
FFDO - Federal Flight Deck Officers. These are the pilots, copilots,
navigators who have been trained, and are authorized, to carry
US government issued .40 handguns.
fps/FPS - Feet per second that a bullet travels. A .45 is large
and slow at about 850 fps, while other calibers may be in the
1000-1300 fps range.
rig - Your holstering arrangement. There's a million of them.
Wally Walk - This is more than an acronym, but it pops up often.
When you get your plastic (your CHL from Austin), strap on your
handgun, conceal properly, bring a camera, and go to Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart is not anti-gun, but you'll get a thrill carrying there.
A photo of a Cheshire cat grin while ogling the ammo cabinet is
a winner.
