I use the 50 yd zero for my AR as well. The trajectory is +/- 2" out to 250 yards. It's tough to imagine a self-defense scenario where I would be shooting anywhere near that far, and if I were going to be hunting game at a greater distance I'd probably use a different gun.

Your zero should be a reflection of your intended use. Unless you are training constantly and constantly shooting at the various ranges and can dope your shot on the run, I suggest zero'ing to the range you have the highest probability using it at. Trying to call a 7" drop on a variable distance target in wind isn't exactly something you want to do on Irons in a gunfight without the proper training.
