I qualified at BP in late 2007, but the last time I shot there was probably 2 years ago. I have a DPC membership. It's an outdoor range, so no AC (or heat), but it's also a lot more fun... ...oh, and the range time is already paid for.... ...at a much lower rate.

I remember that the greeters used to want to lock your guns at the door and then unlock at the range...it seems they've done away with that.

They were still doing that the week that I took my class. I haven't been back to that range since I received my plastic. I got the impression that they treated CHL and non-CHL differently regarding putting on the trigger locks at the front door but I have no personal experience with it.

I gotta agree with Pucker. I've been to BP several times.
First time was a good experience, slow day, friendly service. that was maybe 2 years ago.
Since then I can't say that I felt treated like a customer. I rarely go there, mostly for that reason.

Winchester was a better experience. It's a bit small though.
I like the one in Burleson that CTD owns the best, but I haven't been there in 6 months.
It just seemed like I had more room and the lighting was far better, plus the people were friendly and helpful without being intrusive.

Rifle range at BP is a single "tube" with electric target carrier with various (dimly lit) stops out to 100 yards. Reservation recommended, especially as deer hunting season approaches.

When I was there a couple weeks ago, they were still requiring the guns to be locked by the greeter before going to the range.

Funny about locking your guns there.. last couple of times I've been there, they ask at the range counter if I've got any guns to unlock- as though I might not. Which makes me think they've relaxed the 'lock up teh ebil gunz' policy. I haven't tested it yet, though.

Last time I went, I took my little buckmark 22 and my new XDM 45. I only presented the buckmark to be locked / unlocked, but I'm sure the range guys realized I wasn't shooting 22s the whole time. No stink eye, so it seems to be cool with them.

It may just be person a preference, but I would always have them put a lock on at least one gun at the door. If you don't and then when asked if you need any unlocked and you say no, you have just outed yourself. If you're okay with that then fine. If you don't care to let everyone in the room know you have a CHL then have them put a lock on it. Some folks will frequent a range enough that they will get to know the employees and one's CHL status will probably eventually come out. It's difficult not to talk about something we're proud of or enjoy doing.

I like the range at BP. The check in thing is a minor...minor...annoyance to me. My only complaint about the range is that the line is HOT HOT HOT. I sweat buckets in there. I wish they had a "membership" as I like to shoot alot. My work schedule generally lets me shoot mid week, off hours so its never crowded. I recommend the range wholly but don't expect to be able to sit and talk shop with the staff there...its not that kind of range and I like it like that.

The last time I was there, I talked shop quite a lot. Talked about how a particular type of scope worked, about various hearing protection choices, about the store, about different firearms, and just general shoot the breeze kinda stuff. It must depend on the person and the day.

That's one reason I took the buckmark. (The other being I'm not about to put my carry piece back in my holster after putting 100 rounds through it without letting it cool down first, and plinking with the 22 gives it time.)

Been to Bass Pro several times. It is indeed advised to call ahead. I've heard of "lead levels" in the air being too high. Something with the ventilation. If you do not have a CHL, they will lock your gun. You're not required to produce it. I've spent 15 mins or more talking to the greeters. Nice folk.

Of all the time's I've been, I've never had a customer service issue. The wait has been cumbersome a couple times though, upwards of 30-45mins. I've seen them get on people who fire too rapidly (while I was waiting in line).
