I feel the same way. It is like the U.S. giving aid to people in countries that are anti-American before and after they receive our tax money. If they want our help they should change the government and stop biting the hand that feeds them. And until that happens I won't even stop in the area for gas unless I have to. I look at it as motivation to not allow corruption to be the norm.
There were 2 devistating huricanes in Louisianna last year. Rita did a whole lot of damage to East Texas and west Louisianna. There was not a whole lot of reported corruption or abuse in these these areas. While there may be some good reasons to avoid N.O the rest of the state is CHL friendly with a lot of nice people. I feel good that some of the money I might spend there might help them rebuild their lives after Rita.

ABC news picked the story up:

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2476458&page=1

Excerpt:

"Pruett, 62, said that gun sales at his store are up 50 percent from last year but that he was uncertain whether it had anything to do with fear of the evacuees.

State figures show that from January to Sept. 1, the number of concealed-carry permits issued for handguns was up almost 25 percent from the same period a year ago in Harris County, which includes Houston. "
