Printing it and going to keep a copy in my car.

So, if I understand correctly, the only limitation is actually going into the school building. Picking at the carpool lane is fine and also parking and walking up to the front door and picking my son from there (without going inside) is fine. Right?

OK. Continuing on the same subject. What about carrying in a private daycare that has infants to Pre-K? No 30.06 is posted.
Re: CHL and picking your kids from school
I'm digging through the CHL laws book but it's hard to find the exact location where it says the restriction is for school BUILDING and not school property. Does anyone have a quick link?
Re: CHL and picking your kids from school
Maybe be legal, but dicey. If reported, you maybe arrested and later the charges dropped. Be safe, leave it in the car for the few minutes you are inside the building.Zoti wrote:OK. A daycare center is a business, not a school.Zoti wrote:OK. Continuing on the same subject. What about carrying in a private daycare that has infants to Pre-K? No 30.06 is posted.

(3) "Premises" means a building or a portion of a building. The
term does not include any public or private driveway, street, sidewalk
or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other parking area.

Re: CHL and picking your kids from school
It's either legal or not. If it's legal and I have the part of the law with me then I doubt I'll get arrested. The law does specify kindergarten and up so I was wondering. I do go pick up my kids from that daycare as well as from the public school.

Re: CHL and picking your kids from school
This scenario of picking up your kids after school is one that highlights the silliness of 'gun free zones'.
There are hundreds of elementary school kids milling about outside the building of my nephew's school. When I go to pick him up occasionally, I park a block away & walk up to the pickup area to retrieve him. (This saves a good 20+ minutes, since dozens of parents would rather queue up in their cars spewing exhaust than stretch their legs. But I digress) My gun and I are (gasp!) RIGHT THERE in close proximity to all those innocent chillren. But this is perfectly OK by state law, whereas if I crossed the threshold of a building, the same chillren would be in danger!

I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal

Re: CHL and picking your kids from school
Oh. I totally agree it's dumb. If you are allowed to carry then your should be allowed to carry no matter where you are. The restrictions are good (airport security zone, Court house etc) but also very dumb (schools, sporting events and such).
But I have to follow the law. I want to make sure I'm within the law. Other wise I'd just carry the gun without a permit.

Re: CHL and picking your kids from school
Does the law differentiate between a public and private school? I would think they are both statutorily off limits and neither requires a 30.06.KFP wrote:As long as the school is a public school, you are able to carry when picking your child up. The premises of the school is off limits - premises being defined as the building, or portion of the building.
If the school is private, the 30.06 sign is valid. Depending on the location of the sign (parking lot for example) the property could be off limits for you.
