That didn't take long at all. Here's the latest:
========================================= Yes, thanks for following up. We agreed that we should add to the public inquiry system the same gun sign information that is currently posted on the license/permit. It says either “blue sign” or “red sign.” Now the issue is how to do it. Currently, the sign designation is part of the “print” function when the computer is physically generating a license or permit. The calculation is done at that time, and it’s not kept in a database anywhere, so it’s not just a matter of “turning on” another field on the website. But our licensing and IT folks are working together to figure out the most efficient way to make it happen.
I also learned that when the gun sign law first passed, we started printing “51%” or “Regular” on the licenses and permits that hang on the wall of establishments. And we were threatened with a lawsuit from a business owner who said his sales information was confidential. So we changed it to blue or red. That is why folks have been hesitant to release any more information than they had to on the website. But that’s behind us now. We will at least put on the website everything that is printed on the license/permit.
Thanks for having faith that you can suggest a change to a bureaucracy and actually make it happen! Now it’s just a matter of how quickly. If you want to check back with me in a few weeks, that would be great.
I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal
