Re: Girl misses flight over "felonious" purse decor.
I will add this, in all fairness to the girl, the inclusion in the story of the fact that she is pregnant has no bearing at all on the story. None whatsoever. That leads me to ask, why was it included in the story? It is not a complimentary tidbit. The only reason it was included was to cast an aspersion on her character. One could argue that she has already done that to herself by "getting on the train," but even so, it is not a fact related to the story.....so why include it unless your goal was to either titillate your readers, embarrass the girl, or both?
Imagine substituting the words "the pregnant teen missed her flight" with the words "the humpbacked teen missed her flight," or "the lesbian teen missed her flight," or some such nonsense like that. One of those comments would (rightly) draw the ire of handicapped-rights groups, and the other would have drawn the ire of LGBT groups. I'm willing to bet that this same publication has been "guilty" in the past of witholding information about the ethnicity of an accused criminal, or referring to republican candidates as "conservative" or "right wing" republicans, while not using the same kind of descriptives for democrat candidates. And we already know the Chron's stance on guns, CHL, campus carry, etc., etc.
This teenager had the likeness of a gun on her purse, something which she thought of as cool and part of her "style," and so they smeared her by including the information about her being pregnant in order to devalue her credibility versus the TSA's.
There is rarely such a thing as a reporter without agenda in this world any longer. I'm not defending her getting pregnant (although I applaud her apparent decision not to kill her baby); but I don't read publications like the Chron (or the L.A. Times, or the NYT, or the Chicago Sun-Tribune, or any of the others) because they have abandoned the art of "who, why, what, and where," and consequently they are no longer deserving of either my patronage or my trust.

Cast aspersions? The media? Never.
She has to be a worthless because she is pregnant at 17.

The word "and". "or" I could understand.Oldgringo wrote:What part don't you understand, 17 or pregnant?philip964 wrote:I'm sorry, but this is sort of expected of the TSA. However what is difficult for me to understand is that the girl is 17 and pregnant.
To have a story like this appear, the Woman or her Mom would have to call the local news to report the story. They would then tell the news media of her medical condition during the interview.

Exactly, it's not like the news media are so hard up that they are standing around the airport waiting for little girls who are pregnant to miss their flights due to decorations on their accessories.philip964 wrote:The word "and". The article looked to me as if they were trying to generate a little more sympathy for the girl - SHE MISSED HER FLIGHT!; SHE'S ONLY 17!!; AND ON TOP OF THAT SHE'S PREGNANT!!!

During the strip search her leg was injured. Thank God she didn't have a purse with the image of a pistol on the side of it. They'd have likely beat her to death. An 85-year-old Long Island grandmother says she plans to sue the TSA after a humiliating strip search on Tuesday by agents at JFK Airport.
Lenore Zimmerman, who lives in Long Beach, says she was on her way to a 1 p.m. flight to Fort Lauderdale when security whisked her to a private room and took off her clothes.
“I walk with a walker — I really look like a terrorist,” she said sarcastically. “I’m tiny. I weigh 110 pounds, 107 without clothes, and I was strip-searched.”

I missed the part in the story where she was complaining about her choice of destinations. The Annoyed Man wrote:My wife's comment regarding pregnant teens: "If you didn't want to go to Chicago, why'd you get on the train?"
