I have two 38 special revolvers and a 44 special revolver in the closet I reached up to grab one the 38s to load it for my night stand gun. Well I got the 44 flipped it open and loaded a 38 round in the wheel only it went all the way into wheel.
I thought for a second or two something bad had happened to the gun or my ammo them the light came on!

Where`s my sign?

More years ago than I care to count, I "borrowed" my father's Colt Ace .22 to go with my friend Mike and shoot rats in a basement of a tumbledown abandoned farmhouse. I don't know who I was trying to fool or hide from, the gun box was on the third floor of the house and nobody could see in the windows, but I carefully spirited the key out of the locked drawer and took it up, opened the box only enough to reach inside and identify the gun by feel, stuff a mag into it, and slip it into my pants waist while looking around to make sure nobody saw me.

For those of you who may not know, a Colt Ace is a 1911 in .22 LR.

Mike and I arrived at our rendezvous and ensconced ourselves in the corner of the basement where we had good fire lanes for rats, it was not the first time we had done this, but usually we used our pellet pistols or shared Mike's father's .22 revolver.

We had settled first shot before we started, so when we had settled in long enough and the rats started coming to our bait, Mike turned on the big flashlight and I fired at the rat that sat nice and still in the light.

Guess which gun I had "borrowed."

Sure made a mess of that rat.

That was the last time.

I have also fired a .380 through my 9mm and only really noticed due to the difference in recoil, it ejected just fine.

I HAVE grabbed a 12-gauge shotgun to go cotton-tail hunting, and stuffed a pocket with shells. When I got out to the hunting area, I realized my pocket was full of 16-gauge ammo.

Yeah, that didn't work out the way I had planned.

I have done the 12 guage 16 guage round. Was last Jan or Feb in Kansas while pheasant hunting. I was using an 870 express and it worked, even ejected some of the shells after firing, I didnt notice till I picked up one of my hulls. live and learn I guess. Now I have nothing but 16 guages,

I was hunting with some guys one year and we ran into a covey of quail ,they kept coming up on the side this guy with a 12 gauge over under was on and every time you'd here blam blam after about 10 rounds the shots weren't coming as fast almost like he was hesitating,then he made the comment man this thing is kicking like a mule and i asked him what he was shooting and he said 3" shells,when i looked at the gun it said 2 3/4" chamber he's lucky he didn't get hurt from over pressure in the chamber,i let him have some 2 3/4 " shells and his shoulder was so sore he still winced when he pulled the trigger,this was in kansas too

I had the same thing happen to me some years back. It scared the heck our of me. Since then, I never fire my 45's and 40's during the same shooting session.

I think ill never own both a .40 and .45 now :)

This thread reminds me of a time when I took some buddies from work to the range. We took a .45 and a .22 rifle. Anyway, one of the guys was a good ol' boy from Alabama, so I assumed he was familiar with guns. Yeah, I know. So this little .22 is the kind with the feed tube under the barrel and it was his turn to shoot and I had moved over to the next lane with the .45. Next thing I know, the guy leaves and come back with another guy who turned out to be the range person. After having everyone step back from the firing line, I learned that my buddy, instead of feeding the rounds through the little slot, the one that is shaped like a bullet, had instead, very carefully inserted like 15 rounds into the spring loaded rod. When he tried to put the rod into the rifle, that thing shot out about 20 feet down range.

I couldn't get back to the firing line for a good 15 minutes from laughing at him.

I was having problems fiiling my sig 2022 40 cal mags they wouldn't take 12 rounds,45 acp takes up more room than .40 go figure,I gotta quit taking my reloads in baggies

That is a great story, and welcome! I don't think I have seen THAT one, before. At least not when it launched the rod down range. I do know that some can be fed that way though... maybe it was a model difference?

Have you had a chance to check the rules section? I want to politely point out the rule where using acronyms in place of profanity is not allowed. At least if your acronym for a completely new person is the same as mine (the thing I replaced with *s). ...

Hey - no problem at all. I use the term everywhere but here. Most of us aren't offended by it at all, but we try to keep it 10 year old daughter friendly around here. In fact that used to be the only rule until we got a bit bigger and had to spell everything out.

This place sure has grown up since I started posting. It isn't the cozy place it used to be, but that is a good thing - and it is still about the best resource out there for CHL related questions. Great group of folks and glad you are a part if it.

I had a similar experience about a year ago. I was looking for a larger carry gun, and a friend had let me take a S&W Model 457 of his (a steel-framed .45 auto) to the range to see if I liked it enough to buy.

I went to Red's down south and asked for a box of .45 to shoot. The guy brings me a box, and I load up the mag. I fire, and the gun failed to load the next round. I thought it was odd, but cycled the slide to load another round, which it did. Fired again, and the same thing happened. I take a closer look at my target, and the rounds were apparently tumbling big time. I pull the mag, and sure enough - they had given me .40 ammo. I had never shot either caliber, so I didn't know the difference in feel or appearance. The gunsmith checks out the gun and says it's OK, and they hand me a box of ammo in .45 this time. I double checked the case markings (the boxes had no caliber marking on them), and proceeded to shoot 2 boxes of ammo. Afterwards, I proceeded to kick myself for buying range ammo rather than stopping at the store and getting it for less than half the price.

I found that I didn't like the feel of the gun anyway, despite how good a deal it was, so I declined to buy it.

I was at the gun range today and asked a guy i know to bring his bersa thunder 380 so i could fire it since i was thinking about buying one.The gun fired 2 mags with no problem,a short ime later he said what did ya do to my gun it won't chamber any shells I'm like i put my booger hook on the bang switch and pulled the trigger.I look at the weapon and it's got a round started but the chambers only half closed.I drop the mag lock the slde open and look down the barrel and i don't see daylight,barrel obstruction so i tap it out with a rod and it's a 32 acp case His response oh yeah that last shot felt kinda weird but i didn't think anything was wrong I guess last night when i spilled some ammo i got it mixed up when i put it back in the boxes:shock: had the slide closed on a new round he would of had a KABOOM,I told him if you ever have a light recoil ,the action doesn't cycle,It sounds different ...DON'T FIRE THE GUN UNTIL YOU CHECK AND MAKE SURE THE BARREL IS UNOBSTRUCTED AND THERE ISN'T SOMETHING ELSE WRONG WITH THE GUN
