Need ideas on saving skin-big hands, small gun

Thanks for the link. I just practiced that a bit. I don't see much of a difference but will place my thumb lower at the range tomorrow.

I've tried the lower thumb some more. The problem is when I go lower it doesn't leave a good spot for the other hand. It just sits on the thumb and I don't see that offering much support.

I too have large hands. I wear an XL glove when I can find them. The little guns would all bite me in the web of the hand from time to time. My solution was to quit trying to use a Mouse Gun for backup and carry a snubby revolver for backup/small gun use. Five shots of bite free shooting really beats 6 or 7 shots that you're worried about the gun injuring you.

A mouse gun?!?! Haha didn't think I was young to shoot a mouse gun. Ill look at revolvers again.. I can do a trade plus cash for a colt commander but feel that's bigger than I want to carry. Will hit academy in a different city today on the way to the range.

Alright. I guess it's time for an update. We went to webers yesterday and I worked on different grips and not gripping the beavertail so tight. That seemed to be the answer. I did catch my hand once in about 40 rounds but I can deal with that.. After the one I tried wearing a mechanics glove that worked so I may get a shooting glove for practice days. I still reeeeaaaly enjoy shooting the gun. I shot the p290 some to but do not like it as much as the p938. I was in academy this morning and looked at a p238 that wasn't put out yet with the gf.. She fell in love with it so we picked it up. Very impressed with that gun as well.

I've never shot a sig and have never experienced "slide bite" or "hammer bite." But while researching about a Walther PPK/S, I came across this interesting thread with pics that talks about slide bite:

Take a look at the 3rd post in that thread, and in particular, the links to the photos he posted. I don't know if his lower grip advice will help with your sig, especially since it looks like there's enough clearance between the webbing and the slide from the pic you posted, but thought I'd pass this on to you in case it helps.

There is exactly the reason that my friends WWII PPK and I do not get along at all. Neat little gun, cool history on it, nips me almost every time. My PPS works well with that slightly altered grip. Keeps the beavertail on it from rapping my thumb knuckle too much.

Well, I finally shot a Smith & Wesson-made Walther PPK/S 380. Luckily, no slide bite for me. I do have relatively large hands, but they're thin and bony, and from googling I understand that the S&W made PPK/S's have reduced the slide bite risk with a larger or different beavertail design. I'm guessing the older PPKs are the ones where bigger hands may be more prone to slide bite. Hence, the recommended grip for those in that link I posted which may or may not work for the OP and his Sig.

Incidentally, while googling "slide bite," there were a few hits for Glocks with that problem. I don't have a Glock, but I've shot my friend's and have never had slide bite with his. Just thought that was interesting considering how popular Glocks are.
