With a 65 lb Barbell:
30 Standing Military Press Reps
50 " Dead lift
15/10 Bicep Curls
120 Shoulder Shrug
120 Behind The Neck Press
50 Bent Over Rowing
10/10 Upright Rowing
15/10 French Extension
160/69 Bench Press
60/30 Dumb Bell Flys
Next day 25 mile Bicycle Trip on heavy Mountain Bike i.e., one day free weights / next day cycle and so on...
Plus, mucho work like splitting logs with a 10 lb sledge hammer and steel wedges, pruning trees with a 16 Hayauchi pole saw, digging & removing tree stumps by hand and well, you get the picture...
For 22 years I ran - average run = 10 miles per day or 25 miles a day on skates.
Knees ruined so I bike. Also for fun distance paddling a 16' sea kayak.
Oh yeah, I'm well into my sixties.
The free weight training I've been doing for over forty years. The only change in that routine is I used to do it every day plus run. Now I want more time to do stuff in the yard - I've got a BIG yard.

Re: What is your daily/weekly/bi-monthly/etc. workout?
My general goal is to get every major muscle group sore in one week. I also want to do cardio 6 days / week because I work from home.
In 2010, I lost 125 pounds basically following the workout below. I put about 15 pounds back on in 2011, mostly trying to increase calories and strength. In 2012, I lost a lot of my regiment, let my meals sneak back up on me, and gained 20 pounds back. 2013 is a return to the basics.
Monday: Chest / Triceps
Tuesday: Back / Biceps
Wednesday: Legs
Thursday: Shoulders
Friday: Core / make up day / extra cardio / day off
Saturday: Core / bonus arms day / make up day / extra cardio
Sunday: Core / make up day / extra cardio / get a jump start on the next week wtih Chest / Triceps
I life four days a week for 45-90 minutes. I try to build a catalogue of exercises for each muscle group and do a different sets of exercises each week to avoid routine. I usually lift first so that I'm fresher and safer with my range of motion, and it makes it easier to get to my target heart range for cardio. I got in a bad habit of resting too much between sets and am working to fix that now. . . letting me get some cardio benefit to the weight lifting portion of my program.
On my lift days, I'll lift first and then do 30-35 minutes of cardio (typically elliptical). On my other days, I'll shoot for 35-45 minutes of cardio. I work from home, so moving 6-7 days is important.
I also try to mix in pickup basketball, riding my bicycle, or the occasional flag football to change everything up and guard against boredom.
I then take 1 scoop of protein after every workout.
This year, I'm really recommitting to disciplined eating like I did in 2010. The following phrases have been motivational:
"You lose weight at the table. You get fit at the gym."
"You can't outrun a fork."
FWIW, Mrs. Fickman does P90X at home, usually during the kiddos naptime.

Re: What is your daily/weekly/bi-monthly/etc. workout?
I alternate between P90x and some men's health workouts. Few months of one, then switch to another. They're all basically circuit training I guess. I workout 4 to 5 days per week typically.
I will turn 40 next week and I found out this past year that my jogging and high impact (p90x has lots of plyometrics) are in need of reconsideration. My knees have been giving me trouble. I imagine that I need to go see a sports medicine Dr, but so far I've managed okay after taking about 4 months off. I've been going for a month now with only minor discomfort.
Giga, I'd be interested to hear more about crossfit.

fitness class M,W. from looking at the crossfit website, alot of those exercises look like what we do in class:
battle ropes, banging a tractor tire with the 10lb sledge, flipping the tractor tire, kettlebell swings, presses, rows, etc. foot speed drills, box jumps, abs:planking, v-ups,crunches,etc. ...and my new nemesis, boxjump-burpees.
league rollerhockey 1x/week
pickup rollerhockey 1x/week
and when daylight savings comes back, a mt bike ride here and there, where I can fit it.
for all the exercise I get, I still carry a surprising amount of extra around my middle. /sigh.

I can do that. My problem is that I'm still 10 pounds from where I want to be and 20 pounds from where I'm supposed to be for my BMI to be under 25.knotquiteawake wrote:Thats OK TAM, I already get it from my wife. I'll weigh 180 and then over the course of 48 hours drop back down to 175, while she's still been trying to get those last 4-5 lbs of pregnancy weight off for months. I try not to weigh myself when she's around. The Annoyed Man wrote:OK, it's official. I hate you.knotquiteawake wrote:About one situp a day... I situp in the morning and I go back down at night.
Somehow still able to maintain 6"1 and 175lbs eating whatever comes my way. If I partake in too many second helpings my weight creeps up to 180 but a couple weeks of eating lighter and its back down to low 170s.
I SHOULD at least do some cardio though I suppose.
I've been getting messages from my body that its not going to last much longer... those 180's have been coming more frequently and have taken longer to get back down to my "normal." I'm afraid I might even have to exercise in the future to get the wait back off.![]()
I really do intend to start working out before it gets to that point though.
But more on topic... I did work out 3 mornings a week a little while ago, just a really brisk jog/walk through the neighborhood with the Boston Terrier, just over a mile. It was a great way to start the day since I work from home and don't have a commute to get my mind organized for the day.

I participate in triathlon, running and cycling events. I workout up to seven days a week depending on my goals for that season and sometimes 3x a day

56yo, 6'4", 210lb had 3 heart stents 6 years ago, and stopped smoking and started exercising. After morning coffee and banana, start with 50 situps/crunches, then do 10 sets of 10 reps on weight machine, starting at 110lb in 10 lb increments to 150lb...(2 sets of 10 at 100lb, 2 sets at 110, 2 sets at 120, etc...) and and in between each weight increase do 20 reps of dumbell curls with 20lb weight for total of 100 curls w/ each arm, then walk briskly outdoors for 1to 2 miles. Always been very active outdoors...fly fishing, hiking, golfing and spend a couple of afternoons each month cutting and splitting wood . do it daily unless raining and then I skip the walking.

Getting up from the easy chair, walking to the fridge, getting a coke and blue bell ice cream, walk back to easy chair.
Usually try to do this at least once a day. But I have been known to over do it and pull a muscle. In those cases I have trained the dog to fetch the coke and the blue bell.
Ok, I lied. The dog does the fetching all the time.

Run/upper body every other day (unless I'm really sore, then I skip an extra day).

Re: What is your daily/weekly/bi-monthly/etc. workout?
I crossfit. I started in September and combined with eating less I lost forty pounds by December. I hit a lull until about a week ago and I've lost another two and getting started back up. It's better and harder than any workout I've ever done including the military.
My posts on this website are worth every cent you paid me for them.
