Maybe they're trying to figure out what people are willing to pay for these things to gauge how much they can or need to tax them to make it undesirable for us to purchase.

Luckily the Tax does not apply in all cases...Dadtodabone wrote:http://www.atf.gov/firearms/guides/impo ... e-tax.htmlbaldeagle wrote:So one of you more educated types want to explain why the government needs to know the unit cost of weapons you import? Otherwise I'd have to pay each time I came back with a new gun• Acquire a firearm or ammunition during a stay outside the United States, use the firearm during your stay, and then import the firearm into the United States

Category III para (f)(1) at http://www.pmddtc.state.gov/regulations ... art121.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;canvasbck wrote:Cite?Jumping Frog wrote:State Department ITAR regulations covering these items have been in place for a long, long time. That is why someone needs the $2,250 ITAR license to be a bullet or ammunition manufacturer.
I despise the BATF-ers as much as most, but this really isn't new to this administration. Sounds more like a Canadian seller who was relatively new to cross-border demand coming from the US and someone slapped their hand for not doing things correctly.
General ITAR specifications page at http://www.pmddtc.state.gov/regulations_laws/itar.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;(f)(1) The components, parts, accessories and attachments controlled in this category include, but are not limited to cartridge cases, powder bags (or other propellant charges), bullets, jackets, cores, shells (excluding shotgun shells), projectiles (including canister rounds and submunitions therefor), boosters, firing components therefor, primers, and other detonating devices for the defense articles controlled in this category.
Covers import and export of weapons, components, and related technologies.
The State Department ITAR license is a minimum of $2,250 and goes up from there depending upon revenue. This is the reason I chose not to sell cast bullets as a side business. Even if I never exported cast bullets, I would have still been required to obtain the ITAR license.
