Always carry spare mag?

Not as much as I should, but I do carry an extra 15 rounds sometimes.

Yes, always...unless you have a crystal ball...

And they are right to do so.BobCat wrote:Usually, in a thread like this, someone mentions that they carry a spare magazine not so much for the extra ammunition but in case of a malfunction. Many stoppages of semi-auto firearms are attributable to problems with the magazine.

I almost always carry an extra magazine. It's not that hard to do, and if either a)You have a malfunction or b) you are attacked by a group, a spare magazine is a nice thing to have.

Re: Always carry spare mag?
I am like some of the previous posters. I always carry a spare mag. It is not too much extra to carry, I might need the ammo, but the main reason is in case of malfunctions. Tap, rack, bang.
Re: Always carry spare mag?
For same reasons already stated, I always carry at least one spare reload (mag or speedstrip or speedloader), but lately I haven't been carrying more than one spare.

All of those tales of "average gun fights" are just that AVERAGE - sometimes you need less (or none at all) sometimes you need many more.
Read this story more for it's inspiration and less for actual tactical info. This is about a uniformed, on-duty peace officer vs. a bank-robbing gang member, after all. But heck, even YOU might find yourself needing a lot of rounds. This officer now carries 145 rounds on his person on duty.

Re: Always carry spare mag?
I use to carry a spare mag in a spare gun.
Since I developed back issues, I am down to one gun, one mag most of the time.

I don't carry an extra mag just around town although I know I should, my girlfriend typically always has an extra mag. If I travel tho I do carry two mags with my primary 9 and my 380 as a bug.

Magazines are a common failure point for semiautos. Some people carry a spare magazine for reliability as much or more than for the extra ammo.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.
Re: Always carry spare mag?
I do depending on the weapon I'm carrying at the time.

I never carried a spare magazine, until a few years ago. I started having some back issues from
the uneven weight distribution. Added a fully loaded magazine to my opposite side and it helped
tremendously. Now I carry a spare mag always. No more issues.

Re: Always carry spare mag?
Nope. Should I get in a gun fight, it'll be over, one way or another, in the first half dozen rounds.
Re: Always carry spare mag?
I typically carry two extra magazines when I'm carrying my .380 which is my EDC. If I just need to run out real quick then I'll switch to the Slim and that gives me 8 of 9mm. The extra mags with the .380 I find "necessary" whereas I can feel comfortable with just 8 of 9mm for quick errands.

Spare mag not normally carried on body unless wearing shoulder rig, which is rare. What is not rare is often also carrying 5-shot revolver with 6 rounds in speed strip in pocket.
