You all pretty much summed up what I already knew but I just thought I'd throw it out there to see if there was some information I was not aware of.

I hate using my SS# if I don't have to and since the law has been changed for it not to be required. I'd like to keep it off the record if I can. I think it's very lazy for the web administrator to not update this action on the website since it was passed over 6-months ago.

Mailed in applications do not need an SS#. It does take a while for them to get back to you and you can not track the progress online.

I did mine through mail too.
28 Sept 2013 Class completed, 29 Jan 2014 Plastic received.

While you're correct that the law did change last summer, the legiscritters that changed the law did not appropriate any money for DPS to hire someone to change the software throughout the DPS IT systems.

DPS has said that they intend to get the software changed, some unknown time in the future.
