That thought process is how 2 year olds get guns and kill themselves or others.
Please point out the evidence that the 2 year old retrieved the gun from the top of a refrigerator.

Chas.
From the article;
Police believe the mother's boyfriend had brought the gun to the house and stashed it on top of a refrigerator

I don't think it matters if THIS particular child got the gun from on top of the fridge. If someone thinks a kid can't, they are risking that kids life. That is my point. You cannot hide a gun or put it out of reach to keep kids away.....
The statement you were challenging was "how did a 2 year old get a gun from the top of a refrigerator." That's a very valid question.

It's speculation on my part, but the fact that the mother was present in the room with the children leads me to believe she is the person who retrieved the gun. Otherwise, why wouldn't she have taken it away from the kids? I also think another Member is likely correct in suspecting that one of the older kids actually did the shooting.

Chas.

I wonder what is meant by "played with the gun". My children may at any time ask to see the weapons in our house and we will stop what we are doing and go remove the weapons from the safe and unload and clear the weapons. Then while we are standing right there with the weapon pointed in a safe direction always the child may look at the weapon as long as they wish. The reason we do so is to make the guns as boring as possible so their natural curiosity is satisfied. Much like the hammer in the garage and the knife in the he kitchen, it is a boring tool that mommy and daddy have.

If that is what they were doing then I understand that...but why oh why did you leave the room with it loaded and not put away? If the children were "playing" with a loaded gun :mad5 . That is not ok, ever.

Now perhaps this two year old is Hercules but most of my kids (because we have tested them on this while unloaded and pointed in a safe direction) have not had the finger strength to pull the trigger on our handguns before the age of four. My two year old can barely pick the unloaded gun up much less pull a trigger while pointing it in any direction.m

Sounds to me like either the mother or one of the older kids retrieved the gun. And if one of them didn't discharge it, then someone may have cocked the hammer and put it in single action where the trigger pull was light enough for the 2-year old to pull it.

Oh see I understand. All of our guns around the house are glocks and Kahr's pretty long trigger pulls on each one. But I like it that way. I want to have to mean it when I pull the trigger.

At 2 years old, my (now ex) wife's granddaughter could get to anything she wanted. We once caught her getting some object (not a gun!) from the top of a 6-foot tall bookcase.

With a kitchen cabinet right beside it, the top of the refrigerator was NOT a safe place to store anything.

I have no idea what happened in this case. That said, never underestimate a 2-year-old.

I guess you didn't have a two year old like mine. Child cabinet locks? No problem. Tall cabinets? Just pull out the drawers to make stairs. Crying baby sister when momma's in the shower? No problem, climb into the crib, retrieve said sister, climb down and carry her to momma. She is scary bright that one and somewhere along the line, a beautiful young lady has taken her place..
