Full size 9mm pistol for small hands

For reference purposes, I measured my hands.

Open as wide as possible from tip of my thumb to tip of pinky finger 8"
Thumb joint to tip of index finger-5"
Thumb length 2-1/4"
Palm width 3-5/8"
Bottom of palm to tip of middle finger 7"

I would still recommend giving the M&P a try, my wife, and my daughter both have smaller hands than I do, and they have no problem with it. Apex Tactical, makes replacement rigger assemblies. They reduce the trigger pull and take up reset, but I don't know if it move the trigger back any further.

Another vote for the Browning Hi Power. 13+1 (although there are some aftermarket 15 round mags available), all steel, external thumb safety, most accurate 9mm I've ever shot. I never fail to have new students fall in love with these when they borrow one of mine. Men and women both.

I doubted it at first. I really prefer a manual safety on my pistols. I learned my lesson quickly tho. NEVER EVER question a SEALs choice in weaponry. It's just sexy and smooth and a dream to shoot.

On a side note...GO NAVY! BEAT ARMY!

Yeah - I prefer the manual safety too - all the semi-auto pistols I received formal training on had safeties and even after all these years its kind of natural for me to reach for the safety.

I have short fingers and the BHP fits me very well. Also, it is a very flat pistol, makes it easy to conceal.

Operates like 1911, and can be had with ambidextrous safety levers if you want.

I've never looked at CZ before, but now interested after hearing Charles Cotton talk on a TFC Podcast about getting one for his wife and having the trigger moved to allow her short finger to reach it properly.

CZ P01. Hands down, the most comfortable handgun I own. Uncocked firing is laborious, half-cock is easier, and condition one,(mine has a decocker) is always a surprise. Sights are......meh. but it points instinctively for me. And, it's lightweight enough not to bother me.
Also, tons of aftermarket support.

I like the CZ 75 P01. It is a very good pistol. It has never given me any issues. If you like steel/alloy pistols over plastic, it is a great carry option. The CZ 75 compact is similar without the rail, but I think the P01 has some other improvements.

The Springfield Armory XDm in 9mm has a fairly small grip. It is nearly too small for me. The XDm 3.8 version has a barrel just under 4", but still has a 19+1 capacity which is higher than most others. The XD Mod 2 in 9mm is also pretty small with a 16+1 capcity I believe. I think the Mod 2 version has a better grip surface, but you can see for yourself if you are interested. The Mod 2 9mm does come in a 4" barreled version.

I'm surprised nobody recommended the new Ruger American. It's a really nice full size 9mm, but the first thing I noticed about it was how amazingly "thin" the grip was. Thinner than an M&P or a SIG, based on my perception. It's till a double-stack, so the tradeoff is that the length of the grip is a little longer, but it has adjustable palm swells as well.

You might want to visit your local gun dealer (or a range that rents them) and try it out. I'm very impressed with the workmanship of that pistol (and it shoots nicely too).

In my original post I noted that he Ruger American was one of my two first choices - but the trigger was too far of a reach for my hand. It is possible that swapping the palm swells/grips that come with it would result in an acceptable trigger reach, but I didn't want to ask a dealer at a gun show to swap them so I could possible buy it. One of the newest Ruger American model has the ambidextrous thumb safety that's why it was on my list.
Guess I should try to find it in a local gun shop (not a big box sporting goods store) and see if they will put the smallest swells/grips on it so I can see if the reach is acceptable.
