Here is the tread of the Florida handicapped parking space killing. There was a video of this incident.

The Houston case had no video.

Apparently the Houston victim had a bullet hole in his mail, indicating his hand was near his heart when he was shot. Not necessarily where your hand would be if you were attacking some one.

This case was from 2017, I can't believe I missed it.

After my foot surgery a couple years ago, I was amazed at how many abuse the handi spots... never really paid much attention before I needed them. Winter time on crutches stinks, especially when there are iced over puddles in a parking lot. I wanted to dot a few windows with my crutch tips, but refrained.

I wish that LEO's would pull through every lot they pass and cite those abusing handi spots... after a month or so, no one would do it anymore and both sides of this problem would go away.

Be careful shaming people for "looking able bodied". Looks can be deceiving. Prime example is someone with a serious heart condition. They can't walk very far without being winded or extremely tired. They look just fine but they are not. Chemo patients are the same way. I am sure others can think of similar situations.

It's one thing if a person does not have an HC tag and parks in the spot. But be careful how you judge those that do have tags. I may look fit, and I can lift cases of water into my truck, but I have COPD and leg infirmities which limit my walking, hence my doctor prescribed HC tags.

I'd appreciate you keeping your uninformed opinions to yourself.

Haha - I got challenged by a LEO for parking in a HC spot, wanted to know where my hang tag was. Didn't bother to notice that I actually had HC plates. It was not a pleasant conversation.

I suggest we should refrain from publicly "shaming" anyone, especially over parking. As howdy said, not all handicaps are obvious. I retired from the Army after over 30 years in uniform. The VA rated me 70% disabled. The state of Texas grants me certain parking accommodations and I appreciate that as well as the other benefits Texas affords her veterans. I have neither the inclination nor the requirement to fit anyone's stereotype nor to explain myself. I do not have a disabled placard. My vehicles have Texas Disabled Veteran US Armed Forces plates. I will continue to do all I can to hide my discomfort. Several forum members know exactly how I feel.

Just as I do not modify my carrying to mollify those who are "frustrated" by my taking responsibility to lawfully protect my loved ones and myself, I am not concerned with those who are "frustrated" over where and how I legally park.

The plate you mentioned qualifies as a placard.

I have a placard that I use when I am a passenger in someone else's vehicle. I have been harranged by those who don't understand Texas Transportation Code 504.201.

For the record, I would not harass a person in either case or even if they had no placard. Part of the reason is as mentioned above. I have no way of knowing if they have some kind of health issue. The main reason is that I see it as "not my job". LOL

Traveling overseas with a person in your group who has difficulty walking long distances has its challenges.

However, going through immigration,customs,etc. in the airport, especially in Houston, where you get to use the crew line is awesome.

I try to look as sullen as I can as we pass the 1000’s of people waiting.

"Uninformed opionions." Amen, brother (my younger brother retired from the Corps). The opinions of others about how I legally park are as meaningless as their opinions about how I legally carry. My momma raised be better than to offer this kind of unsolicited advise to strangers.

I broke my leg a few years ago. I put my crutches on board and drove the heck out of that thing in Target, scaring people, backing up with out looking and generally intimidating everyone in the store. Wheeeee.

I still give bad looks to the obese 40 somethings in motorized carts I see at Sams with the basket full of frozen pizza and fatty snacks.

I have a handicap placard as does my wife. We both have COPD and cannot walk far without gasping for air. However, there are days that are better than others and I can get out and walk ito a store without issue. But by the time I have to walk back to my truck, I have difficulty breathing. When you can lifting cases of water over the side of a pickup bed ( multiple cases), or you jog into Sams while you leave the person who actually qualifies for the placard in a running car with the A/C running ( illegal by the way) I get a bit perturbed. I have had several friend who have need the space as they went through Chemo, so I don’t jump to conclusions.

Yes, when the guy is 6’5” tall and built like an NFL tight end and running around his Diesel PU ( which he left running) tossing cases of water and 57 lb bags of dog food into his PU I call him fit. Fit is like Porn, you know it when you see it. I see the main problem is the Doctors who hand out these HC plackards like candy and then the plackards not expiring until your DL is up. Many deserving injuries are short term yet people abuse the plackards.
