Re: No Soliciting Signs and People Who Ignore Them
Valid point, and I agree.I find it funny that with a 10% unemployment rate people have the nerve to complain about what other people do for a living.
However, I would also agree that a "no solicitors" sign should be respected.
I have no such sign posted at my home, and have always found a simple "no thank you" to be sufficient, whether on the phone, or at the door.

I agree wholeheartedly with Texas Dan. Many people are scrambling to make ends meet these days, and I try to cut folks a little slack. That said, signs posting "No Trespassing" are expected to be obeyed. It is common courtesy, as well as prudent, to also obey "No Soliciting" signs, even though you are involved in door-to-door sales. Fore-warned is fore-armed.

I have a no soliciting sign. If somebody ignores it, I open the door and take their picture with my phone. Before they can speak I tell them, "You are tresspassing. You have 15 seconds to leave my property before I call the police and give them this photograph and file a complaint."

Re: No Soliciting Signs and People Who Ignore Them
Why buy from someone who proves they're dishonest by disobeying the sign.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

Re: No Soliciting Signs and People Who Ignore Them
For those who feel I'm complaining about what others do for a living and that perhaps I shouldn't be since the job market is tough these days...no apologies because that's not what I'm complaining about.
Folks can sell meat door to door, run up and down the street selling ice cream, or sit in a boiler room and make cold calls via telephone selling magazine subscriptions all they want and be as proud of what they do as they want. Fine by me.
I'm not "complaining about what others do for a living", I'm complaining about others ignoring my legal signs and no-call lists telling them not to do it on my property or via my phone service.
I'm actually making it easier for these folks to do their job...they find out right away I'm not going to buy anything and therefore don't have to waste their time finding out the hard way. They can move straight on to the next guy and get one more contact in for the day thanks to my sign.

Just keep the Thin Mints coming.

BTW, someone had to dig deep to bring life back to this old thread.

That brings a whole new meaning to in home service call.ninemm wrote:Has it occurred to anyone that a significant portion of the population thinks the word soliciting or solicitation refers only to the world's oldest profession and doesn't apply to what they are doing/attempting to do?

Not anymore you don't. He had two posts each with personal insults. He's already gone and if I find that it was someone else double registered so they could blatantly violate our rules, they will be gone too.Abraham wrote:MikeG aka JayCee - we see you.

Re: No Soliciting Signs and People Who Ignore Them
Man, I got two five gallon bucket of wheel weights waiting to go into the pot and another bucket of about 5k in range brass. I have about 2k in reloads waiting to burn at the range, so I'm waiting to melt and cast for the upcoming cold winter days when there's not much else to do. Right now I'm too busy making use of this great weather on BB chasing my bro and sis-in-law through the Ozarks...AndyC wrote:Long time no see, tfrazier - done any casting lately? :)
