Think I'm going to go ahead and pick up a .45. i don't have one and it's on the wish list.
need to decided between a 4 or 5 inch version. right now a kimber pro carry II tops the list. for the $ they are a great gun.

Re: Revolver for nightstand and range time
As stated already, Judge fires .410 shells and .45 LC or Long Colt cartridges (not .45 ACP).Blindref757 wrote:Anyone have experience with Taurus Judge?
In that it would be good on the nightstand with the .410 Personal Defense loads in it, and that it shoots .45ACP (range), might make it a good solution for the OP.
I just don't know enough about the gun to recommend it. I have a buddy that has one and he keeps it with .410 and .45 loads alternating on the wheel. That's not for me, but he feels comfortable with it.
Do some research before deciding that .410 in a Judge is ideal home defense load. I think it was "bucket o truth" that first posted some very lackluster test results of .410 buckshot and slug loads into water jug test media. Penetration was subpar and spread was too wide, meaning some pellets would miss a human-size target even at 7 yards (and YOU are responsible for damage done by any projectile leaving your barrel - so what or who WOULD those errant shells hit and damage or injure? They're conclusion: you're much better off using .45LC in the Judge for defense against two-legged critters, save the .410 shells for defense against the low-to-the-ground critters. And in that case, you're probably much better off with any other normal bullet-firing revolver for home defense - .38, .357, .44 special etc.
Also - having fired a Judge - I'll say I found the general design and ergonomics of the gun to be unwieldy compared to single-purpose revolvers. The cylinder is HUGE to accommodate those .410 shells.
