I had a look a few years ago, I think by zip code, for the sex offenders in my area and was startled to see how many there were. It was quite easy and fast to look up. I didn't need to see a DL or go to great lengths or time to find out. The schools can do the same...
Your idea may be feasible for a very small school with 75 students but for for the visitor traffic created by schools with 800 to 2500 students what you are suggesting is simply not possible.

They were multiple choice questions and they knew everything.
5yrs ago what street did you live on?
What model car did you buy 3yrs ago?
FYI - I think that information is being pulled from your credit report. If you've taken online defensive driving in the last 10 years or so, you'll see similar questions. You likely opted into providing this information when you obtained a mortgage, car loan, etc. It's hard to live without a credit history these days.

Another FYI - if you think you're DL info is private, you're wrong. I can see all the vehicles registered to your address as well as your DL number, DOB, and address via publicdata.com. Again, this is a private DB that buys "public" data from states and complies it for sale. All a bad guy would need for identity theft would be a social security number, which I'm pretty sure can be bought somewhere else..

I don't like schools keeping a copy of a DL either. Scanning it against the sex offender DB is ok with me.

All it tells us is if you are on the sex offenders data base, and will print out a badge with your destination on it. It lets us know how many visitors are in the building, as they log in and out. If it does pop on an id it asks if this is the person in front of you, and our district admin is notified if it is a positive match. They call to see if everything is OK as sometimes people aren't fond of being told they cannot enter the school. It is very low key/very little info shared. Only name and photo come up. I would never switch jobs with the receptionist EVER! We work closely together, and I would be on the 6 o'clock news with all that she has to put up. People are amazing at their lack of courtesy!

District Employees are fingerprinted, background checked and scanned annually. No volunteers work with students unless they are background checked.

I figure I am so on the radar grid for everything I am scanned/printed and checked for (school employee, 4-H volunteer, nursing license, CHL) I should never need a checkup! As a parent and staff member I appreciate them monitoring the comings and goings on campus as much as possible.

Another case of over controlling the law abiding while potentially leaving the campus open to someone who isn't. I'm betting that that a security study at the school would show holes big enough the drive a truck through. Don't get me wrong. Comings and goings need to be monitored. But in our granddaughter's school, noone can come in to have lunch with a child without a written note from the parent. A good policy you say? How about if I'm on a authorized list which allows me to go to the school at any time that I want and take my granddaughter out of school, leaving with her in a car? But I cannot have lunch with her without my son's written permission? Pulese. If I do the driver's license routine and I'm on the authorized pickup list, that is all the security that is needed. texanjoker wrote:They have been doing it here for years. It is checking for sexual offenders. Nothing wrong with that. Their scan won't turn up chl status. Just whether or not you are a baby raper or other sexual offender. I don't think it checks for anything else.

Now my only thought is that if I am going to be swiped then make sure all the teachers and staff swipe as well at the beginning of the school year. I read here how the teachers don't want background checks :smash: I've worked several investigations involving teachers/school staff members and illegal sexual relations with students :smash:

I really don't want child molesters around my grandson, would like to break them if they were. You do realize however if I were 15 or so and the hot teacher and I were doing the nasty anyone that ratted me out would need an ambulance very badly right? I wouldn't complain not one little bit as some of the teachers I have seen lately having sex with students I would have NEVER told on. I have so many professional licenses its not even funny so my life is open to being looked at by almost anyone so the DL thing doesn't bother me anymore
