In Houston, I specifically stay away from the Greenspoint area and the Aldine area.

You're right about that. I used to live in that area. Greenspoint Mall - also known as Gunspoint Mall.

....and yet that is where they stick the USCIS office! Some of the scariest nights of my life have been linign up outside the, then, INS. No appointment system, no security and having to line up ALL NIGHT just to speak to some trumped up clerk about why they (the INS) can't read (or understand at least) plain English!

Get the feeling I had a bad time with them?

I think you can now add federal offices and military installations to anyone's list of unsafe places.
