Re: Taurus 709 Slim Range Report
Taurus website finally says my Judge has been received and waiting repair, 1 day short of 2 weeks after arrival, but from what you guys have said, they don't update the status very well.

Re: Taurus 709 Slim Range Report
Update: Ugh.....so i get a call from FedEx. To make a very long story short, someone messed up and didn't put the apt. # on my package. It stopped in New Braunfels where I was informed that they can't change the address because "an adult signature is required" and Taurus couldn't get them to deliver the thing either. So after much complaining to FedEx and Taurus all at the same time, I was informed it can either be picked up by me at the FedEx location, or it can go back to Florida, get the address changed, and then be delivered to me....A package delivery company that can't deliver a package?!?!
So I went and picked it up. Work order says extractor was "adjusted" and the firing pin replaced. Looking it over, the only thing that looks different is the ejector looks bent toward the ejection port and almost like it shouldnt be that way. Given all the issues I have had with this gun, I am starting to think this gun is simply cursed. I'll let you all know how it shoots when I get a chance

Re: Taurus 709 Slim Range Report
I got my Judge Public Defender back today, and since I was going to the combat shotgun range to test a new MD Arms Saiga 12 gage 20 round drum, I took the Taurus too. Both shot well, the Taurus did hang once on some Federal 410 000 buck, but it wasn't anything like before, I just helped the cylinder a bit and it rotated to the next round. It never hung with 45 Colt or Winchester 000 buck. It goes into rotation starting tomorrow.

Re: Taurus 709 Slim Range Report
In case anyone is wondering still, I took the Taurus out today to see if it functioned any better and wouldn't ya know it, it DIDN'T! This time instead of jamming every few rounds, it did it EVERY round!!! Boy I sure wish I could have some choice words with management at Taurus especially after reading their multi page self-plug on their 2010 catalog about how they are a so great and they "build" pistols where as others just "put together" pistols (since Taurus makes all their own stuff). So tomorrow I get to do the dance with Taurus customer service,if you can call it that, again.
Bottom line? I won't be recommending Taurus to anyone. I have a hard time believing they even attempted to function check this firearm after repair because it took everything I had to get through 2 magazines with every single round getting lodged the way it does. I gave them a chance to make it right and give me a positive experience, but it has been nothing but headaches, time, and money to have a pistol that still doesn't function right out of the box. This gun, and manufacturer, doesn't have a welcome home anymore...

I'm really sorry to hear of your problems, I'm still not confident the Judge Public Defender will work when I need it, so it's not being carried until I can run a few hundred rounds thru it. And I need to switch my wife's 709 back to her Glock 19. Even though I've had good results with almost all of my Taurii, I'm done with them.

Re: Taurus 709 Slim Range Report
Thanx for the sympathy pains. I don't blame you for switching firearms either. I won't necessarily bash the 709 design or record. If the gun has proven itself reliable through many rounds, then hang on to it and don't look back. I will only bash Taurus' spotty customer service and downright absence of resonable quality control.Tireshred wrote:I'm really sorry to hear of your problems, I'm still not confident the Judge Public Defender will work when I need it, so it's not being carried until I can run a few hundred rounds thru it. FWIW, the customer service lady I spoke with today was very helpful and seemed genuine in wanting to help me out. She also informed me of what they had specifically done to my pistol. From what I remember, the firing pin was "damaged/broken", no more details on the "adjusted extractor", and ran 24 rounds of WWB through it. Allegedly....
FedEx comes tomorrow. I will keep updating for educational purposes.
Re: Taurus 709 Slim Range Report
My daily carry 90% of the time is a PT145, I have recommended it to friends who have bought one. I have ran 1,000's of rounds thru it with the only glitch a light strike on WWB every few boxes of ammo, but another pull of the trigger always took care of it. I only carry it with SD ammo that has never failed. I like it because it's reliable, it was my first Taurus, and it fits my body with a Fobus holster so much so that I forget I have it on. I have to wear a body shirt with most other carry's to keep from getting pinched. But, I keep buying Taurii in hopes of finding another PT145 I guess, I should just buy another for when this one wears out and call it a day. Good luck with your 709.
