she could have saved everyone lots of time if she'd just vote with the other 20 on SB 354
They'd have moved 2 bills closer to being law instead of her wasting everyone's time where they only meet a short time ervery 2 years
We should dock her paycheck for wasting time ...
Would be nice if we had 21 votes after recess is over

Obviously some folks are so adamant about keeping guns off campus, they're willing to sacrifice other important measures to see it done. This is sickening.RPB wrote:she could have saved everyone lots of time if she'd just vote with the other 20 on SB 354

Ellis' 2 amendments were about Insurance since he believed the lies he "says" HCC/ACC told him
Perhaps something can be "worked out" there ... like the amendment to reimburse any insurance premium portion attributable to ??? not being able to be sued as they currently could be?
Then he can:
1) vote right
2) save face

Can someone boil it down for the rest of us who didn't watch all the drama?
In addition to Wentworth, who else is on the side of students, faculty, and staff?
In addition to Ellis, who else is on the side of muggers, rapists, and murderers?

I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.
Re: NOW IN PROGRESS sb 5 is on amend 7
The votes on the amendments were consistently 19 or 20 for what Wentworth wanted, and 11 or 12 opposed. The minutes won't be up on the web until later, but the votes are probably the same senators he has committed to bringing SB354 to the floor.Ameer wrote:In addition to Wentworth, who else is on the side of students, faculty, and staff?

Since there is obviously ONE *Republican* who refuses to do the right thing and vote for our bill(s), we should all make sure that the next time he is up for election, we send money to his PRIMARY opponent AND a message to his office letting him know why...yeah, I know, all of us aren't that much compared to the big-money that some folks probably send to him...but it might make JUST enough of a difference. THIS is the exact stuff about politics that drives me up the wall...good men like Wentworth and the hard work of so many being stymied by one individual.

He's saying he's not running for re-election. But then, he said that last time, too.Heartland Patriot wrote:Since there is obviously ONE *Republican* who refuses to do the right thing and vote for our bill(s), we should all make sure that the next time he is up for election, we send money to his PRIMARY opponent AND a message to his office letting him know why...yeah, I know, all of us aren't that much compared to the big-money that some folks probably send to him...but it might make JUST enough of a difference. And in the House they have the issue of a Republican-appointed Calendars committee that has apparently pigeon-holed it.

Re: NOW IN PROGRESS sb 5 is on amend 7
I remember back before the session started there was discussion about whether there was any advantage to pre-filing the bills, particularly in light of Rep. Simpson having filed Campus Carry as HB86 pretty early on. I think Charles said there was at best no advantage and possibly puts you at a disadvantage to have it out there so early.
It seems to me that we really should have filed the Senate version as early as possible this time around. At least then it probably would have come up in the regular order of business and wouldn't have needed the 21 votes to suspend the rules to be able to debate it on the floor. Of course, House Calendars is a whole other issue, but equally ridiculous in that they both allow a small minority to prevent good bills from getting a fair vote.

I'd follow the money on that one. If the state legislates a guarantee on on any premium increases somehow attributed to CHL being allowed on campus, guess exactly what's going to happen the minute the law passes? The insurance carriers will raise premiums as much as they can, because they suddenly have a free money card. Sounds to me like someone has a cozy relationship with an insurance company or two.RPB wrote:Ellis' 2 amendments were about Insurance since he believed the lies he "says" HCC/ACC told him
