CHL as ID (Pass) for TSA?

Not planning on flying anytime soon, or if ever again. But I know all of us hate the TSA and their "Feel" Good procedures.

Why can't we get a Nationwide movement going to allow bypass of all TSA security (& delays) by simply presenting our CHL (or other similar States permits)?

After all, we are certified Good Guys with a complete FBI background check. Why can't this be used for air travel (and/or ALL SECURITY) within the USA?

Not only would it help us, it would also thin out the line for those that do not have one.

Showing your CHL at a TSA checkpoint today is just asking to be detained. I have heard one CHL'er had that happen here in DFW (and the souce was VERY reliable.)

Maybe you misunderstood me.
I am not advocating showing your CHL and expecting to pass thru today.

I am asking for a Federal exemption for CHL Holders that would become standard procedure with TSA. Once that is in place, then and only then, your CHL would be accepted as a pass.

After the Federal exemption is passed and implemented it would go something like this.......

Show CHL/Boarding Pass. TSA say's "thank you, pass this way"....... which would be around all further screening.

Given the number of antis who are part of government today, I cannot imagine this happening anytime soon. There is no way that they will support giving benefits to any gun owner, let alone a CHLer. Our very existence is an anathema to them.

No because that actually might make sense and cost less $$ and anyone watching can tell that our gov't does whatever it can to make any dealing with them as much of a hassel as possible and cost as much $$ as possible. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: .

:iagree: Unfortunately, I would agree with that. It would certainly help me out, as I fly fairly often for work, but I know that will never happen :grumble

How many legal guns have been brought through security "by accident" so far?
"I didn't realize it was still in my purse/backpack/briefcase/etc."
There's no way we'll see a CHL "pass" line without bag check.
Perhaps the best we can hope for is reduced secondary screening.

Also.... It would not be difficult, given the growth of domestic radicalization, for a "concealed BG" to get a permit.
Another reason we'll never see a CHL pass without bag check.

Texas officials won't even recognized the CHL as a valid, primary form of ID and often will still require a DL. I think that would be the first hurdle to overcome if we want Federal (TSA) recognition of the CHL as an ID and any derived benefits.

I'd settle for CHL allowing acces the the "first class only" line. :thumbs2:

I have a TWIC card processed by the TSA and background checked by the FBI and they didn't accept it even though they say on their website it a valid ID for travel! :headscratch

(Transportation Worker Identification Card)

Once I had to argue with them that my US passport and social security card was good enough for an id. They wanted a drivers license which had been stolen two days before (along with the rest of my wallet). I had to explain to these gentlemen that yes a US passport is a gov't issued ID, and it carries more than enough weight to stand in for a drivers license. These guys are not the brightest bulbs in the box.

Years ago had the same "discussion" with a convenient store attendant while trying to purchase beer. Had a valid/current out of state DL (had just moved here that week) and a valid/current US passport, but they weren't too swift.
