State Fair Security Theater

Had to laugh today, and share it here.

Picked up an extra day off, so my bride suggested that we go to the State Fair today..

We arrived, after a long traffic jam, and walked up to the gate.

The security person wanded me before I had a chance to declare that I was carrying. She wanded my left leg and my left butt, completely missing my 3:00 but alarming on my harmonicas. I pulled out some of my harmonicas and she waved me through.

...and THAT is why they continuously tell us that carrying at the State Fair is unnecessary. They do such a good job of keeping illegal weapons out...... NOT!

It might be interesting to see how many times you could enter and not be detected. My guess would be that it is North of 30%. It may be WAY North of that.

I wonder what they would do if they actually found an illegal weapon?

Just keep a harmonica in your pocket for a decoy.

I had eight on me, and always carry more than one - one must be prepared. :coolgleamA:

Everybody wants technology. Nothing better then a good thorough pat down.

I went to the State Fair on Columbus day. Rainy, but not that bad. Still lots of folks.

I didn't even get the wand. Wife and I had our tickets and they just waved us through thru the turnstiles.
Was carrying a .45 Springfield with an extra mag. Lots of metal there.

Wife carrying a Walther.

Security? Pfffft!

Mindset is more important than the tool. Many years ago I was selected for a secondary screening pat down. When they felt my pocket knife, they asked "comb?" and I just smiled.

We decided to go today and was wanded but they didn't find it. I actually asked a cop about it as we walked by and his quote was, "Welcome to the perception of safety"

We were both blown away, lol. Not that I should be surprised but like others have sais, if you are sanding why not do it right.

That seems excessive; you shouldn't be allowed to carry that many.

But, where do you carry your keys, gun, spare magazines...?

Tru-Spec pants have so many pockets I have trouble filling them all.

My eldest daughter has a torqued knee and we have been using a wheelchair so she could get around easier. My wife took the girls the other day for a concert and dropped her sidearm in the pouch on the back of the chair. No declaration and no wanding, waved through. Moral: Use a stroller or wheelchair.

Devils advocate - at that point, was your wife carrying a concealed firearm or was your daughter?

Good question. My daughter was carrying everything brought to and bought at the fair in her lap. She would be hard pressed to reach around where my wife's immediate reach would produce the item in question.

Still a question of who legally possessed the firearm. Given some of the recent decisions to prosecute by DAs recently, I would err on the side of caution.

There should be a limit of three or four. No one needs more harmonicas than that on them. :biggrinjester:
