Re: NM: Walmart to stop selling guns in New Mexico

Here is a little more clarification. Apparently the new law will require stores that do firearms background checks to do them for private party sales between two individuals. So, Walmart doesn't want folks walking in with guns and doing the transfer in their store. https://thehill.com/homenews/stat...

Re: NM: Walmart to stop selling guns in New Mexico

I'm confused. Did Wal-Mart not already have to perform background checks on gun buyers? Or is it talking about something more in-depth than the standard NICS check? Also, why would they suddenly see "individuals walking through the store potentially carrying multiple firearms" after this new law (th...

Re: Irresponsible dog owner

I'm so happy for you that the dangerous dog has been taken care of! I agree with Jusme on every count. Get security cameras if you can afford to (some sets are easy to install and only a couple hundred bucks). Either way, take pictures of anything that irks you or looks suspicious. Even if it isn't ...

Re: Watch Where You Walk

Question, does the 10 acre rule apply when you're trying to kill a venomous snake? To my knowledge, if you must shoot the snake in defense of your life or someone else's (the snake blocks your path, your phone is dead, can't get away from it, etc) then the doctrine of necessity would provide a defe...

I agree with TAM - this is going to get locked. While many of us (I would argue most of us) on here agree with you Gator, this appears to violate forum rules.

Re: Poll: Do you Open Carry?

I OC most of the time. I CC at church, or if I have to go into a 30.07 posted location. Usually just by untucking my shirt. Cold weather coats, jackets etc. cover my gun but I'll usually remove them once I'm inside. I'm pretty similar. I OC my main gun and CC a backup gun everywhere I go unless pos...

Darn legal definitions. In plain English "actor" simply means a participant in an action. :grumble

Re: HB 1163 - Large Cities may Vote to ban Open Carry

The same bill was introduced last session. Basically gives Dallas, FW, Austin, Houston, and SA special gun control privileges. It died in committee last time and I expect it will be this time as well.

Re: Dog attack in St. Petersburg - OK to Shoot Attacking Dog ?

The quote above of Serious Bodily Injury is a definition from Penal Code Chapter 1. But the laws sometime refer to an "actor" (causing serious bodily injury) which by definition is a person, not a dog. And, a "person" can be an individual, corporation, or association. I'm curious to see where you g...

Re: Does Parking Lot Law also include adult and juvenile prisons

Former TDCJ officer here - can't vouch for the policies on the juvenile prison, but either way the law protects you. As far as adult prisons, yes: visitors and staff alike are allowed to have a handgun in their vehicle. The policy is either at the highway gate or when you come to a stop in a parking...

Re: Dog attack in St. Petersburg - OK to Shoot Attacking Dog ?

Is an attacking dog capable of inflicting death or serious bodily injury? Just my .02, LeonCarr (46) "Serious bodily injury" means bodily injury that creates a substantial risk of death or that causes death, serious permanent disfigurement, or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bo...

Re: KY: TN license holder pulls gun on MAGA hat wearer...

Article said the gun-guy had a carry permit...Do they not teach de-escalation in his state as part of getting his license? Shooting the finger at somebody is hardly de-escalation--in fact it is just the opposite. Then pulling the handgun in this situation--over the top. Hopefully they will pull his...
