It's time to go on the offensive and expose the risks associated with gun free zones. People and states are wising up with gun rights being expanded in many parts of the country. We need to counter the lies by educating the general population.safety1 wrote:Wonderful, more fuel for Obama's SS "gun grab" agenda.

Absolutely! They have the right to ban guns and the patrons have the right to choose whether or not they will comply or go elsewhere. Both rights are supported and honored.Richbirdhunter wrote:Jumping Frog wrote:Every customer there made a choice to disarm themselves (or not) as well as made a choice to purchase a ticket there.Richbirdhunter wrote:Do we support property rights in this case?
Does that mean we still support property rights?

Absolutely.Richbirdhunter wrote:Do we support property rights in this case?
Do I think it was STUPID that they banned guns from their property? Yes I do, and this is the result. The flipside of property rights — property responsibility — and you are at least morally responsible for what happens on your property. But morality and legal liability are two different things. That kind of liability is generally limited to the owner's callous disregard of known unsafe conditions..... such as slippery wet floors. There are laws that require the owner to maintain a safe environment with regard to slip-and-fall incidents; laws that require restaurant employees to wash their hands after going to the bathroom; laws that require adequate lighting, etc., etc. There are ZERO laws requiring a movie theater owner to allow a gun into their establishment, because that is NOT what creates the unsafe condition. The unsafe condition is created by the scumbag who brings a gun in anyway and starts lighting up the place. Before he walked in, the place was perfectly safe. Therefore there is no legal liability for banning guns. By posting a no-guns notice, they are effectively saying, "enter at your own risk", which means that if you chose to enter anyway, you chose to assume the risk.
Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. I would not enter a theater where my gun was banned. If someone either A) doesn't care enough to find out if he can bring his gun in or not, or (worse) B) mistakenly feels safer than if guns were allowed, and that person enters the theater willingly, he/she assumes all the risks.
You have a constitutional right to go to the theater. You do not have a constitutional right to enter it in defiance of the owner's wishes. Vote with your wallet. If there are no nearby theaters to accommodate you, wait until the movie comes out on DVD, or get yourself a netflix account. Netflix doesn't care a tinker's cuss if you sit naked in front of your TV, slathered in Frog Lube, and time yourself field-stripping your AR15 while dry-firing your Glock at the characters on the screen. Heck, netflix doesn't even care if you talk during the show.
.......or....... read the book before the movie it's based on comes to your local emporium of "I don't care about your safety".

The sad part of all of this is that theaters will use this instance (and the prior incident) to justify why they need to put up an anti-gun sign. No one would have gotten hurt if the guy just obeyed the sign.
Their intentions are good, but the logic and execution fails miserably. Without a way to ENFORCE the anti-gun sign, all they are doing is disarming the law-abiding, making a ripe and easy target for the gunman.

There was a shot in one of the news clips showing 'no guns' signs.jmra wrote:In La any form of notification (gun buster sign, notice on ticket) makes carry illegal. Texas laws are much more gun friendly than La.

Please don't give them credit for good intentions. They didn't have good intentions in any meaningful sense. The signs are there for one of two reasons: 1) the owners/management are anti-gun; or 2) there is a financial motive ---insurance rates say, from an insurance company that is probably anti-gun, or because they think it shields them from legal liability. It's not because they care about the welfare of their customers. If they cared about the welfare of their customers they'd take actual measures to ensure their safety not merely post signs intended to shield them from legal liability.mr1337 wrote:The sad part of all of this is that theaters will use this instance (and the prior incident) to justify why they need to put up an anti-gun sign. To review -
They want me to pay $10 to gain admittance -
So they can sell me $20 popcorn -
And charge me $15 for soft drinks -
For the opportunity to support no talent liberals who make millions & support politicians who disrespect my values -
AND I get the chance to become a potential range target?
Naw

Re: Theater Shooting Reported in Lafayette, LA
seeing reports that someone pulled a fire alarm to get people out.... to me all that did was make more targets for the person.... I told my two daughters last night that if anything like this happens when they're attending a movie is to hit the floor and crawl under the seats if you can... and be QUIET.... wait until the cops arrive and clear the place... (my thoughts)
before the local theater(only one) had gun buster signs in the corners of the ticket booth, none on the entrance doors... couple months ago notice that the signs were gone....

I believe the alarm both notified the police that were on the property as security and also alerted others to the fact it was actually a shooting and not part of the movie. The shooting could have gone on longer if the alarm wasn't pulled.RetNavy wrote:seeing reports that someone pulled a fire alarm to get people out.... to me all that did was make more targets for the person.... Additionally, it has been stated that the girl that pulled the alarm also shielded her friend from a head shot and instead took the bullet in her own leg. Both survived as a result of this.
It's easy to Monday morning QB, but tough to know the right course of action unless you're in the exact circumstance.

Personally, I like to use vegetable oil when I slather up but I'm willing to try new things.

But seriously, it's sad how people keep doing the same thing over and over and keep expecting different results. We are people gonna learn that "gun free zones" are a bad idea, signs and laws don't stop criminals and making good people helpless doesn't make bad people harmless.

As with all tragedies like this, my mourning routine is I say a prayer, then funds permitting buy another gun or more ammo while availability is good and it's still relatively a buyers market.
