Just returned from vacation
I was able to conceal carry in several states on our way to Florida. No problems or concerns, although New Orleans is a rough town and I don't see a reason to visit there again.
How many states have you carried in?

Re: Just returned from vacation
The southern states are pretty conceal-carry friendly, thank the Good Lord. Glad you had a nice vacation.
Off the top of my head, I can think of 16 states I've carried in. Most were legal, but I didn't know the law when I carried in New York on a couple of car trips.

I have only had my CHL for two and half years, so even though I have been to almost every state in the US, the only ones I have carried under my CHL are Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas (of course). I did open carry in Montana years ago, but didn't need a license to do so. I don't travel to other states much since leaving the Air Force. Why leave when you live in the best state?

Re: Just returned from vacation
Technically your supposed to be able to open carry in Louisiana. With their police im not sure if I would.
Re: Just returned from vacation
Technically you're supposed to be able open carry (long guns only for now until Jan. 1) in TX already. But with the "in a manner calculated to alarm" nonsense and lack of a clear and definitive meaning/law we have a very subjective and very abused/selective method of preventing that. Same with LA. I think most states have a vague laws they can apply to effectively prohibit you from doing things when it suits their needs, politically or otherwise.winters wrote:Technically your supposed to be able to open carry in Louisiana. I hope that with the passage of handgun OC for CHL's, with the holstering requirements at least negates much of the "in a manner calculated to alarm" excuse at least for handguns. That way if they wanted to check for your license they could but otherwise go pound sand. If it's holstered it's OK. And if you had to use your weapon to defend your self it would be a defense to prosecution.
I just hope OC of handguns also has a positive effect on a persons ability to OC long guns without to much hassle.

Sometimes I really wish a lawyer would chime in and clear things up. Do we have any lawyers on this forum?

I 'spect the "manner calculated to alarm" is a non-starter if the weapon is holstered as described by law. Disorderly conduct if you're a jerk while carrying is another matter.
This is fun though:
Let's see, carried concealed in and through Texas, OK, MO, LA, AL, MS and FL multiple times. Carried concealed through TX, NM and while in CO. Concealed in NM and tucked the shirt in behind the grip passing into AZ, "because I can." Locked it up when crossing into CA. Picked up my weapon from in front of the terminal at Andrews AFB, carried locked until PA, carried openly through West VA and then concealed while in KY. Carried concealed through TX, AR, TN. Carried concealed AND openly on same trip in VA.
