Rebus Shooting hearing CC impact?

Post by SewTexas »

I'm not sure where to put this, but follow my thinking if you will.....

first, here is where things are apparently right now.

I guess UIW can't decide if they are a "public" university or a private one. They seem to want to be whichever works best for the "current" situation.
They can't have it both ways, as Rebus' father says.
We need to keep track of what the court say they are, and hold them to it come Campus Carry time.

I think UIW is OOL, considering the lege just added private police forces gto comply with the open records act.

They are arguing that the police department is a government agency.

If they receive ANY government funding from taxes, etc, then they are NOT a private university. End of story IMO.

Keith, depends. Many students receive federal money which goes directly to the school. That does not make the school a federal entity, but it means they have to comply with federal regulations.

The panel of judges, specifically Alvarez, repeatedly pointed out UIW is the defendant in the lawsuit, not its state-regulated police department.
Why would this matter? The police department is not hired and managed by some independent group. The university is paying the bill and telling them what to do. Why would it be considered a separate entity?
