Bullet Trap has an $80 High Point Semi up there right now. I picked it up and immediately got the urge to go wash my hands, and wipre the gun down too. It actually feels pretty substantial in the hand. The action is horrible though. Quite frankly, the first thing that went to my mind was, "This would be a perfect throw down piece"... It has been there since the 15th, as soon as some vato gangbangers see it, it will be gone...

is it a pistol or one of thier carbines? They have teh carbines in 9 and 40. Thier pistols are in 9, 380, 40, and 45.

I lived in Ohio and have a carbine and a pistol in 9mm. Love both of them.

At 100 yards, with a red dot, I can put 9 out of 10 rounds in a silouette target. I love the things. Price is low, the looks are BAD, but they work when you pull the trigger.

I joke with friends that they bought the specs from a former Soviet Block country and started making them in Ohio.

I paid 89 for the pistol and 139 for the carbine.

I carry an XD9SC as my primary. I say that, when I get my Texas CHL. I just moved back a couple of weeks ago.

I talked to my FFL gun dealer about them because he sells them he said he had personally abused one got it wet pushed into mud and left it buried over night in the mud he had frozen it then thawed it out and it never failed to fire the only problem he had was the frame cracked because of the freezing and High Point replaced that for free.

I have one 9MM pistol and one 9MM carbine but I have not shot either one yet but I will soon next time I go to my lease I intend to take them and see for myself.

OK I can drop it if you wish I was just trying to be fair to all weapons in general.

But I can use mine as a club if thats what everyone wants.

The Hi Point may not be pretty but, they work - - - if you are in need of a gun and don't have a lot of money it may start looking really good to you. I wouldn't carry one for self defense nor, would I be likely to buy one but a lot of people can't afford to spend hundreds of dollars for a handgun.

I agree with irb111 this is no place for elitist trash talk.

It's my opinion that the Hi-Point guns fill a much needed place in the circle of life. It's about darn time that somebody made a reliable if admittedly "un-pretty" gun for cheapish. I spent a lot of my adult life poor. I wished then that I could have a piece for the bedside that was affordable and reliable. Often one trades one for the other.

Are they "niche" guns? Yes.
Is that "niche" a good thing to fill? Absolutely.

Heck, bereft of any other choice I would absolutely carry one. Actually, I could see me carrying one in lieu of several other guns that are more expensive. Lorcins and Ravens come to mind.

In fact I've pondered buying one or two just to see what the fuss is about. Everyone I know who owns one, likes it.

They are a solution to very specific problem. Thankfully it seems most people don't seem to be afflicted with poverty. Let's not bash the one company that sees the problem and has answered with a perfectly viable solution. Cheap and reliable outplay sleek and light for a LOT of people. Especially those who can't afford much else.

Heck, last I checked you'd be hard pressed to buy a used pump shotty for 90 bucks.

The second pistol I bought was a Hi Point JHP 45. It is an interesting gun since it is the only gun I have bought where the manufacturer recommends that you put 1000 rounds through it before the first cleaning and 1500-2000 rounds through it between cleanings. It goes bang everytime with hard ball but doesn't like some HP brands. I also find I shoot it more accurately than any of my other guns including my Kimber and my Hi Power. It just seems to point well despite being uglier than sin. Beginning September 1, it is going to become my car gun with my 44 special going into my wife's car.

I saw that gun there today...has to be the same $80.00 one. My stepson, who is looking for his first gun purchase, said, "Hey, I can buy that right now!" I told him to keep looking.......

sorry Doug, my comments weren't directed at you. Like others here the gun has a place, and is way misunderstood. Lifetime no questions warranty.
Simple blowback, and fixed barrel. There is a lot to like about it.

I had a .45 model and it was only fairly good with FMJ. Accuracy is what I expected with having to keep a low hold on the grip and having a below average trigger pull. I did like the interchangeable / adjustable sights, but overall the pistol stinks in my opinion. Of course, it is what it is. The slide on my .45 was rough.....thin pieces of metal were peeling up from all around. Saying the finish was rough was an understatement. The firing pin channel was becomong ribbed from use......a most unwelcome wear pattern. The thumb safety was thin and sharp. Honestly, I wished I had saved my money and bought a nice used $300 Beretta , Sig or Glock. Eventually, I was pretty disgusted with the pistol despite their lifetime warranty. I can best sum up my feelings for this pistol like this:

Once I quit laughing...It *is* a good idea. I've heard similar suggestions regarding the Yogo SKSs as a car gun, or wherever you might happen to need a cheap spare long gun.
