How many guns can you concealed carry ?

Post by Richbirdhunter »

I have my EDC but today I'm driving my old truck that I keep a gun in as well. I'm having some work done on the truck so I put the extra gun in my pocket.

I wouldn't think it's a problem but I'd still like to know

The most I've been able to conceal carry was about 30 guns. (Many were derringers or the tiny NAA .22s and small .32s or .380s)
That was for teaching Rookie officers to not overlook places where one might be concealed....

Normally I only conceal carry two though.

If you are asking if there is some legal limit on Licensees, no limit on the number in Texas.

Be aware that some states do have a limit on the number and or maximum caliber you can carry. So, if going to another state that has reciprocity with Texas, make sure to read and follow their laws on concealed carry.

California has no reciprocity with anyone and none of us can carry there, but to illustrate how "imaginative" the rules can be, in California a permit holder can carry only the guns, make, model and serial number, listed on his or her permit. Most counties allow a maximum of three. All must be on the DOJ approved roster.

If you have two identical pistols, one of which is listed in your permit, and you carry the other one, not listed, you are carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

Getting a permit is very costly, time consuming and in some counties essentially impossible, unless your sister marries the Sheriff or similar close arrangements.

I was one of fewer than 2,000 permittees in San Diego when I lived there. I think we may have more than that living in this development!
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Welcome to the question from left field///
In the category, damn, never thought of it like that.
So of course, yes if the state of, say Erikstan has reciprocity with texas, and in Erikstan concealed carry is statutorily off limits in ice cream stores.. then of course a Texan with a CHL can not carry in a Erikstan ice cream store. Same kind of obvious differences likely or possible with duty to notify or how non intentionally weapon exposure is handled...Even when or under what circumstances the weapon may be used... All of those things I have been weary of and research before carrying in another state.

But I never considered the other limits a non Texas state might have in its laws..for it's own CHL carriers.. Caliber limit, ammo type, amount carried... Single weapon id'ed on the CH that would restrict what is "normal" for us in TX.
Is there state that has reciprocity with Texas CHL, that has a different restriction or limitation other than off limits areas, exposure and duty to notify?
Caliber? Type weapon? how carried (holster type?)Ammo type? Amount of ammo carried? or anything else?

Yep. Here are examples: Oklahoma has a max caliber of .45. New Mexico limits you to the max caliber and type (NSA/SA) that you qualified with and that is listed on the New Mexico license. Now, since we don't have that, then you could carry any gun/caliber. Also, they only let you carry one handgun at a time.

You can research all the other states rules here http://www.handgunlaw.us.

Right so OK is not an issues for 99.99999% I suppose someone is carrying concealed a S&W .500 and a BUG .46 can derringer :biggrinjester:

I have researched every state I have carried in as a non resident.. ... perhaps my eyes just glossed over on the parts of the law that had no effect on me.., and NEVER come across any local law that affects me as a Texas, Alaska, Oregon, Washington State (states I have or have held s carry permit for) concealed carry person

But clearly there could be a state I have not visited that has a law on the books that might affect me.

So one state, OK mentioned, and its actually not really a significant issue, as when traveling who is carrying a larger than .45 cal handgun as a concealed weapon, or likely to be concealing more than one.

In rhode island you can only use a caliber equal to or smaller than the caliber you qualified with, Oklahoma also uses derringer, revolver, semi restrictions on their license, semi you can carry all, revolver and derringer if with revolver, derringer only if that's what you qualified with.
