"Schools opt out of guns on campus"

Post by doncb »

An interesting article in today's Startlegram. The article originally ran in the Texas Tribune (Austin). I just had to shake my head at the comment from Michael Sorrell, president of the private Paul Quin College (Dallas). " I don't ever want to be a college president who has to call a parent and tell them that their child has been shot on campus." Really? Hey, Mr Sorrell, how'd that work out in Oregon?

Do these people even have 2 brain cells to rub together?

How about posting a link to the article? I, for one, have no idea what a "Startlegram" is. :headscratch

It's a nick name for the Star-Telegram. Maybe I should have written Startle-Gram. Sorry.

Figured it might be a play on words! I actually like what Tech's chancellor said regarding training. I am looking for some kind of training myself for those types of situations.

I am assuming that every staff and faculty at all the state-funded universities have to take the repeated on-line trainings on fraud, sexual harrassment, computer security, etc. I have gotten to the point where I remember the test answers from the previous time. At any rate, if HR wants to offer a course about principles of firearm safety, that's ok with me. It would have to be voluntary (the University has already said they are not going to identify/monitor CHLs on campus).

Not so much any more, but the Star Telegram used to have the reputation of writing headlines that tended to verge on hysteria inducing visions. Thus, "The Startlegram", well known in the FW/D metroplex.

Schools are opting out of legal guns on campus.

There will always be illegal guns on campus, unless you believe criminals obey signs.

Seems somehow fitting, given being named after an archaic form of communications.

You do know it is a proven fact that gun free zones work.

Not sure if you're serious or sarcastic.
