OWB carry but concealed

Post by HKsig »

I'm trying out my polymer retention holster for my HK USP V1 9mm full size and wearing my conceal carry vest over it but prints pretty good.

I know we have protection concerning printing but to what extent? This is really more comfortable than the IWB carry.

Anyone know?

Unless the observer can read the rollmarks on the slide, you're good to go from a legal perspective. The question is, do you have a bulge under your shirt, or does it actually shout GUN!!!!!!! If it is not obviously a gun, it could just as easily be an insulin pump, or a cellphone, or a calculator, or an eyeglasses case, or whatever. I've carried OWB most of the time I've carried, and it is not an issue. I am carrying a full sized Glock 17 right now at the 8:00 o'clock position (I'm a southpaw), and it isn't a problem. Good holsters and a true gun belt make all the differences in the world.

My Glock is in one of these:

Carry that way every day, most every day in the month.

Yep, pretty much.

Looks like a DM Bullard Bodyguard.

I have one like it. Most comfortable holster I've used thus far.

OWB since day one.

A cop I've been working around for a long time now, noticed a few months ago my imperfect figure at work one day, and asked me what was on my right hip. Only person to ever notice my right side OWB carry with a full size G22 in a don hume similar to what TAM wears.

Since it has been hot, I have been wearing IWB at my 6 with a snug, and I mean snug, polo shirt. My XD(s) 3.2in .45 with the extended mag is almost invisible, but you should've seen his eyes after he saw me bend over the other day picking up something I dropped, and noticed me hold my the bottom of my polo with my off hand discretely at my side. He promptly walked up next to me, patted my lower back once when he stood next to me, and about gasped. He asked if I have always been packing there, and I just smiled and responded that I'm always armed.

So you know, I did not take alarm, as we are buddies. I'm just suprised he hadn't noticed. Though he is the only person so far to take hint about my carrying IWB. I know several people and cops have noticed my disfiguration with my right side protruding out a little farther then my left. I try to compensate by carrying my spare mags off hand to bulge out both sides, but I don't always have time to loop in a mag holder.

Once the weather gets colder, it'll feel much more concealed, and you should quickly get used to wearing OWB.

We'll, what kind of shirt do you wear? Personally, most of my t-shirts are borderline slim fit and I don't wear a size larger. So, if I wear OWB I make sure it's a darker colored shirt so it's more of a bulge; otherwise, lighter color shirts heavily print and scream gun.

No, I have my shirt tucked in, Won't that kinda defeat the purpose to have a shirt over the OWB carry and then the vest?

TBH I thought you just wore a vest around without a shirt. Thanks for clearing that up

I've got my first kydex OWB on the way and I'll be switching off to a bigger EDC at the same time, so this is a fairly timely thread for me. I've been wearing IWB 99% of the time up until this point, so I've got some slight changes to make by the sounds of it.
