I wonder if they think UT is gun free today. What elitist progressive morons.

Meanwhile, Open Carry Texas head and state senate candidate CJ Grisham had another message for UT faculty opposed to campus carry: just quit.

"Quit your jobs and walk away," Grisham wrote on his group's Facebook page. "You'll shut the school down and if the school is shut down, no one will have a class to go to. If no one has a class to go to, no one will be on campus. If no one is on campus, there won't be any guns there either!! It's foolproof!"

Faculty and students from the Department of African and African Diaspora studies wrote, "n this country, which devalues black life as one of its founding principles, the expansion of citizens' rights to bear firearms facilitates the violent deaths of Blacks."

"The State and the University have a responsibility to protect and defend those who are most vulnerable. Therefore, we demand that firearms be banned in all spaces occupied by Black people on our campus."
Seriously? When all else fails, play the race card. What if a African American is a license holder and carries a firearm on campus?

The thing that really gets me in all of this is that people truly believe that permit holders are the issue. It really is insulting to me that people, without a second thought or proof of their position, see fit to lump me and the other 800,000+ license holders in Texas into the same group of people who have no regard for human life. The statistics speak absolute mountains to the contrary.

I'm interested to see what grounds they bring a lawsuit on. A violation of their rights? How about my rights as a licensed, background checked, law abiding citizen? You're infringing on MY rights.

Why is it so easy for people to disregard number 2???

I'm not a fan of OCT but I don't see anything wrong with this particular statement. None of these professors is forced to work at UT. No student is forced to attend there. If they're really that concerned about their safety they should quit and go somewhere else. Isn't that what we're expected to do if some business posts a 30.06 sign and we're worried about our safety? Either disarm or go somewhere else? Aren't we told that if our employer prohibits concealed carry on their property we either accept it or quit?

You could probably shut down 70% of the classes at UT and fire the professors and the result would be to improve higher education and make a UT degree more valuable. We've got plenty of journalism, women studies, and social justice graduates already. Shut most of it down in favor of degree programs whose graduates can actually contribute to society instead of seeking its destruction.

Isn't it interesting how some of similar mindset always seem to jump to the extreme on everything. I'm starting to think it must be due to a missing chromosome or gene or something.

Remember when reductio ad absurdum was merely a logical or rhetorical device, and not a way of life?

Almost all thinkers prefer that, while those who can't gravitate towards the way of life.

I agree, for once they really didn't say anything wrong, just a little harsh about it. I've recently given up on this subject. They only way to shut these morons up is to wait until next fall when they see that legal chl carriers are not out to get everyone. It's already been happening in several states and there have been a total of 3 "incidents" since then. I'm pretty sure at least two of them involved pocket carrying with no holster, as well as one lady that felt the need to show her friends at work. All ND's. Nobody has been shot by a carrier and no carriers have attempted to intimidate another student or teacher. They will just have to see that there is nothing to worry about, and much to be thankful for come August.

These professors presumably live in Texas, shop in Texas, send their kids to school, go to church (some of them anyway) and lead "normal" lives otherwise, and they aren't afraid to do so despite knowing that there are some 800,000 CHL holders roaming around on the loose, a fair number of them armed all the time, of all ages as allowed by law, with virtually no problems as a result and in some ways, a lot fewer problems.

Why the fear once the campus boundary is crossed?

They remind me of my first wife, who couldn't be happy unless she was miserable about something.
