The University of Texas should ban the Liberal Arts curriculum. That will solve a huge number of our problems!

"If the administration does not heed their concerns, Snodderly added, the group may sue, claiming the law infringes on the members' rights."
I think my rights have been infringed on for a lot longer. Go ahead and sue.
"We are armed with reason. We are armed with data. We are armed with passion. We are armed with longevity," said Moore. "And we will make this change."
You're unreasonable, your data sucks and good luck on the "change".
The longest speech came from history professor Jorge Cañizares-Esguerra, who said he was not speaking for Gun-Free UT, but wanted to make a personal statement about gun culture.
"America has all-along been about the sheer display of white male power with guns over Indians, over slaves, over females, over Mexicans, over Asians, over African Americans, and over Arabs, now," said Cañizares-Esguerra. "Classroom carry is aggressive intrusion of the vigilante rights of the largely white minority into our living rooms, our offices, our dorms, my classroom.
"They claim this is all about protecting security. And crime, the mass shooters. No. This is all about authority and race. This is about the symbolic struggle to show who is really in control," he added, to applause.
Ah, I knew racism would get thrown in somewhere. Mr. Cañizares-Esguerra, if you don't like it, head south. Oh, wait, things are worse south of the border where mostly criminals have guns. I know you'd feel safer there though.
I can't believe the moronic statements some of those people make. You'd think you were in California. I had not planned on OC, but I just might have to OC on a campus, just to see them wet themselves.

OC on the campus of a higher educational institution will remain illegal, even after 9/1/16 (or 9/1/17 for junior colleges).doncb wrote: I can't believe the moronic statements some of those people make. Interestingly enough, OC will appear to be legal at elementary/junior high/high schools after 1/1/16, as long as the licensee is not on the premises (i.e., in a building, etc.). Unwise, probably. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

Some thoughts:
If the "aggrieved" professors file a frivolous suit over the perceived infringment of their rights then that lawsuit will be quick fodder for summary judgment dismissal.
Note the "learned" history professor "and others" per the article suggest that campus athletes get involved...They are hoping to hit U.T. in the "big money" through the football program. Good luck with that.
I learned critical thinking skills at the University of Texas. It appears some of these professors will not or cannot employ the same thinking skills they teach their students. Sad.

Re: University of Texas professors: Ban guns or we could sue
What UT should shut down is about 80% of the liberal arts departments. That will eliminate a lot of people who don't belong in college in the first place (both students and faculty) and increase the value of a UT degree. Of course this won't happen because with some exceptions college is no longer about education. To the extent it isn't about progressive indoctrination it's about money. Student loans for everyone regardless of the outcome or consequences for the students as long as money keeps flowing.
One thing that might end a lot of this foolishness is a change to the student loan program. If you get a student loan and can't get employment in your field of study within a year of graduation the college that granted the worthless degree becomes responsible for the loan balance. There would have to be some safeguards to prevent people from scamming the system, but the SJW degree programs would vaporize instantaneously.

Having a son who is a recent graduate let me say: the UT you graduated from no longer exists. Oh, there may be some critical thinking going on in a few departments.....but the people who are the problem generally aren't part of those departments. Some of the classes my son had to endure were horrific assaults on the intelligence of anyone with functioning brain cells. No critical thinking was in evidence in most of the liberal arts classrooms. This btw, did not end at UT. He graduated from one of the country's top law schools this year and he didn't see much critical thinking among the students there either. 99% of them simply parrot the progressive mantras. Today's college students and graduates, and of course their professors, may well be the biggest existential threat to the Republic that has ever existed.dlh wrote:Some thoughts:

"If the administration does not heed their concerns, Snodderly added, the group may sue, claiming the law infringes on the members' rights."
What rights are being infringed on by the presence of (a very small number of anonymously carried) concealed handguns? I have wondered this every time I read one of these Gun Free UT statements.
I can't think of anything they could successfully sue over regarding the specific requirements of SB11 not being met.
The only possible claim I can think that they would try to make is the "hostile environment" concept associated with the federal laws against workplace discrimination and sexual harassment. That is the impression I get when I hear their blather about white male domination. But they have no basis for a successful law suit unless they can prove that my concealed carry leads to illegal behavior on my part. And the only data I know of to describe that is the DPS comparative conviction rates which paints a relatively law abiding picture for Texas CHLs.
(Standard non-legal disclaimer applies. And even though I grew up in a deer camp heavily populated with lawyers, district court judges, and Railroad Commission examiners, I am not a lawyer.)
