That appears to be the case.

• 10/7 - Application submitted,
• 10/8 - CHL-90 and NRA credentials submitted,
• 10/21 - Fingerprints submitted.
• 10/28 - Confirmed with RSD they have everything and it's been forwarded to the training division.
• 11/24 - No official notification received, so confirmed via phone again that I'm on the waiting list.
• 12/8 - Received email, notifying me of upcoming classes in January and May.

That was much quicker than I expected, given the stories I've been hearing.

To wrap things up:
  • • 10/7 - Application submitted.
    • 10/8 - CHL-90 and NRA credentials submitted.
    • 1/21 - attended LTC class.
Class was 2 1/2 days; first 2 days classroom, last day the proficiency test at the range.

The proficiency shooting was done in two relays; the first relay was from about 7:30 - 10:00, second relay from 9:00 - 12:30 (didn't actually start until about 10:30). Once you finish (and pass), you're free to leave. If you don't pass the shooting proficiency the first time, you're allowed a couple more opportunities that day.
