Brett Arends is a cowardly man who wishes to be protected and kept free by better men. This country is full of them and TAM nailed their "persona of deflection" to cover their pathetic cowardly existence.
Don't worry Mr. Arends, if you're ever confronted by Evil in the vicinity of my daughter she will do everything in her power to save your pathetic, cowardly existence with her M4 Automatic Rifle, loaded with a 30 round high capacity magazine. Bring her a cup of water from that watercooler if you don't mind...

This does have me pondering something that I've thought about from time to time -- why we have CHLs and why we carry. I mean, I get the self-defense thing and all that. But I can't help but note as mentioned here that there are a lot of us who have served - I'd say in the military, but recognize that there are other ways to have actively served in defending our country. I do think that a lot of us here do feel that we are continuing to serve by carrying. Being prepared, in case. I think that it might be interesting to poll CHL holders to ask how many are former military or such, how many feel that they are continuing to serve by carrying, and how many would likely feel an obligation of some kind to respond.

As a LEO I never hung around the water cooler, I had work to do ....

I wonder how he would feel about something I have been saying forever, I think one of the requirements to be President aka "Commander in Chief" should be that you should have to had serve at least 4 years in the military. This would not make you a good president, but at least have some knowledge of the people you are "commanding". The main benefit I see, would be NO O'bama or Clintons in the White House.

Something I haven't seen here, and maybe I dreamed it, but I seem to remember something to the effect that up until a couple of decades ago, almost every President we've had was a member of the NRA.

Already a suit in the courts to require women to register for the draft, more or less on the basis that if all combat jobs are open to women, it is discrimination against men that women are not required to register as men are.Jago668 wrote:On the selective service thing, men have to do that anyways. So I don't know where he is getting suggesting we require that; unless he is suggesting that it apply to women gun owners. Seeing him get in a fight with feminist over that would be interesting.

Those kinds of smug elitists irritate me to no end, though as TAM said, I know it shouldn't. I did 21 years in the USAF, though just as a lowly aircraft mechanic, not in any sort of combat arms career field. Additionally, we've got two of our three kids in the Air Force right now, also in aircraft maintenance career fields. And, I currently work for the Air Force as a Civil Service aircraft mechanic. So, I've kind of done my service to this nation...how much has HE done?
