WANTED - 12 Guage Pump

Post by carlson1 »

Looking for a Riot style shotgun. In mechanically good shape, but cosmetics are not that important. Inexpensive Mossberg et cetera.

Please Email: pastor@fbcirving.com

Would prefer FTF in DFW, Tx.

If you don't mind doing the 4473, my recommendation would be to check the pawnshops. Your best bet would be to look for an older (wood-stocked, somewhat beat-up) Remington or Winchester. I've seen them quite often in ugly-but-mechanically-great condition for $120 or less down here, (Stephenville) and some of those guns are pretty nearly indestructible when you don't care about looks.

OTOH, if you want a really serious riot gun that will still pass for a hunting gun, look into the Mossberg 835 Tactical Turkey. Not exactly cheap by my standards, but every good ol' boy has to have a turkey gun around, unlike an Evil Black Shotgun. For that matter, used 835s in their various incarnations can be had cheaply, and you can probably find a 19-20" barrel or have the longer ones cut down, then just call it a turkey gun. IIRC, it will hold 4 3.5" loads, or 5 of the little girly loads.

Yeah, I had to give up and go with a really evil black nylon Norinco copy of the Ithaca 37 riot model for that. I decided it's already evil enough that adding the heat shield with ghost ring sights and the butt cuff with extra 00 and slugs just wouldn't make much difference.

OTOH, if you can find something with ugly wood, Krylon the heck out of it and you'll never care about scratches.

Check out Academy. They have the Mossberg Mavericks and they are not very expensive at all. They have a shorter barrel then most shotguns but you could always cut it down add a pistol grip and still be legal.

Between the seminar and baptist deacons you can never be too careful and I do not want the DA to have an expensive gun.

That's what I did, Mossberg Maverick at Academy, $154 with a 28" barrel. Mossberg 500 barrels are interchangeable, so I bought a Mossberg 500 12Ga 18" barrel for $74 at Cabelas. OK, it's not top of the line, but it works and looks good too!

Try Mark at Summit Gun Broker. He has an online (only) store and deals with a lot of police trade-in's, both long guns and hand guns. He is a really nice guy and a straight shooter. Look at his site and give him a call. On the left column on his home page there is a link to his 'Police Riot Shotguns'. Remeington, Ithaca, Winchester, etc. Shipping and FFL fees are largely offset with no sales tax.

Here is the URL:

I bought my daughters Glock 17 from him and got a factory rebuild for under $400. You can buy a shotgun locally but with him you can get a slightly used quality shotgun without having to change barrels or other modifications.

Good luck.
