I've always either had a .30 carbine or M1 in my locking cross bed toolbox. I recently switched back to the .30 carbine as it is quicker to remove and load, at least for me. The funny thing is, while i've had stuff stolen from the cab of a truck before, i've never had anyone break into my toolbox. Not saying it's a good idea, but it works for me.

I have a gem of a 1943 vintage Inland M1 Carbine and 7 15-round magazines for it, loaded with either 110 grain Critical Defense, or 110 grain Prvi Partisan soft points. I think that might even make a better carbine for the car than my AR, but the thought of losing it terrifies me. I love that little thing. So AR it is.

Nice .30 Carbine! I would not keep that one in a truck. The one I have in mine is a very beaten down Inland, but it' reliable. One of these days I need to find a Universal or Plainfield to keep as a truck gun, I would feel more comfortable getting one of those stolen than a G.I. issue.

I don't keep a vehicle rifle or shotgun all the time but I do more often than not. I use either a Mini-14 Ranch Rifle, an AR, or my trusty somewhat rusty 870 tacticool shotgun.

I am seriously thinking about the SBR route. I have a AR pistol but it is more for yucks and giggles than anything else. After I let my FFL go I swore I would have nothing to do with the ATF but the SBR sounds like a sweet acquisition. I have two stripped lowers, LPKs, and stocks already. Just need the upper and some more furniture.

I'll think about it. Seriously. A trust too.

No, and no intention. I might be missing something in the conversation that could sway my mind though. My opinion is as follows:

AR Pistols and/or SBR and entirely too loud for any possible use as a defensive weapon especially inside a vehicle. I believe that having extra magazines for your pistol would be much more beneficial. Not to mention it is much easier to secure a pistol in car/truck if you have to leave it there during the day.

What would be the purpose of a rifle caliber pistol? You really should not be rushing into any A/S scenarios unless you have family inside.

Many years ago this was a good way to keep a rifle in the truck and keep it out of view. Of course you also didn't often worry about locking your truck then either.

Back in the seventies or eighties I remember an incident involving a deer hunter on his way home when he noticed in his rear-view mirror an LEO being shot by a bad guy at the side of the road. He pulled over, got his deer rifle out, and dispatched the bad guy. Always good to be prepared.

You have a good memory. That was Highway Patrolman Sammy Long. Killed near Rankin in November 1976. The good guy with a gun was about 150 yards from there at a rest stop when he witnessed the shooting.

I drive a 4 door F-350. There is no room for a rifle under the rear seat. All the extra space is taken up by lockable storage none of which will hold a rifle. I do however have a Console Vault that I move every year from one pickup to a new one. It offers very secure storage and currently contains a .45 as well as a .380 along with extra ammo. I can get into it inside of a heartbeat! Now these days, depending on just how close to the border I get on back roads, there may very well be an AR inside the cab as well.

That looks about the same size as a bag a croquet set we had many years ago came in. And with the generic logos it is pretty inconspicuous.

The 1911 was my dad's actual sidearm in WW2 - a 1943 vintage Ithaca, and my dad carried a M1 Carbine ashore at Iwo Jima.

That is why I have a 10.5" AR pistol. Not a shotgun or rifle it is a concealed handgun.

Well, due to some thinking about the gun free school zone act and what Carlson stated I ordered an AR pistol upper and parts to build a pistol lower with the Spike's Crusader stripped lower I have. I was wanting to build something out of my lower anyway so I picked up a cheap 300 Blackout 8.5" upper from PSA (looks like I got the last one). I already shoot and load 300 BO and will also be able to use my suppressor on the upper. This will allow me to comply with the FGFSZA and have something when needed with more power and higher capacity. Once again, good discussion and some people on the forum mentioned things I have not thought through.

Not me. My only vehicle is a Jeep with soft top. I don't keep anything in it that is of any value. I don't even lock my doors because I would rather they open the doors and find nothing to steal than cut my plastic windows or canvas top.
