Church security
Well my church voted on changes to the doctrine two weeks ago , it makes me unhappy and mad but times are changing . The new 'marriage' laws , need for more security and just the way our country and it's government is now .
Concealed carry is approved for members but 30/07 signs are ordered . I believe everyone agrees with the concealed carry , it was put in the bylaws without any negative votes by the congregation . At this point only the pastor and deacons know who is carrying , that will change though . Last night at the Wednesday service the usher at the door handing out lesson plans noticed a homeless looking guy hanging around in front of the church . It was dark and not many had arrived . Being concerned he came and got me , time we got out front the guy was gone . We walked around the outside of the church but couldn't find him . I can tell you one thing , there is not a single outside light around the church , it is pitch black when you leave the main entry drive through . A retired LE member monitored the hall inside the entry till the service was over , I took it on myself to stay outside after the service to see that everyone got to their car .
Wanted to see if any members here know of any sites or have info on organizing church security , tips , advice , whatever .

I hope the change you're talking about is that even they will not know who is carrying. Is there a reason other than just being friends that they know now?chuck j wrote:At this point only the pastor and deacons know who is carrying , that will change though.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Re: Church security
I just wonder why the need to post a huge sign unwelcoming people.
I can understand the desire to not have people with big ole hoglegs hanging off their hips, but so far it seems that it would be an extremely rare event, The ushers elders or pastor diplomatically requesting a cover up should be able to handle what should be an extremely rare scenario. The huge sign in front of a church just seems so unfriendly and hostile, instead of welcoming.
I for one am not crazy about open carry, and wouldn't necessarily boycott a business, that posts a 30.07, but it does leave an unfavorable impression on me, and could cause, myself or another first time visitor to turn around and find another church.

I agree. If you feel that you cannot allow OC, then give written or verbal notice to any one who is OCing. No need to potentially turn people away at the door without even giving them a handshake and a "Howdy"

Re: Church security
Chuck, Are you on the security team and do you carry while performing your duties?

A short answer for the fanatical Open Carry folks . Your posts are not welcome on this thread by me , open carry is not the question I posed . I have promoted open carry and encourage it if that is your choice , your in your face tactics are counter productive to your cause . Time to grow up and have some respect for what others choose , I personally grow weary of the OC ranting .

Re: Church security
I could care less about discussing the 30/07 signs being put up at the church . That's done , OC rants will not change it .mojo84 wrote:chuck j wrote:A short answer for the fanatical Open Carry folks . Re: Church security
I have a few families wanting to come over to my church, because in their words their church overreacted and put up both signs.
Of course I want to welcome them to our church but I hate to see people leave their home church.

As far as carrying while participating in the church security team, you may find the posts found here of interest.

I really wish legislation to make it legal would have passed.

Open carry at Church is the only way to go. You should invite "that group" to attend services with AR15's and tactical gear...it improves worship...chuck j wrote:A short answer for the fanatical Open Carry folks . Sorry, I just couldn't resist

Really I think that open carry at Church is kind of rude. Your gathering to worship God, not check out what everyone is wearing....

4/13/1996 Completed CHL Class, 4/16/1996 Fingerprints, Affidavits, and Application Mailed, 10/4/1996 Received CHL, renewed 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2016...). "ATF... Uhhh...heh...heh....Alcohol, tobacco, and GUNS!! Cool!!!!"
Re: Church security
In order to have armed security at your church, it must be a licensed security company by DPS and each security officer must also be licensed. This is an occupational code law. You cannot legally organize armed LTC's to act as security for the church.
The alternative is hiring LEOs or a security company. Hopefully the next legislative session churches and non profits will be given an exception as most cannot afford to hire LEOs or contract security.
A few ways to go about licensing:
1. Get licensed with a Letter of Authority. This is uniformed (Level III) security officers only. License, insurance, training fees all apply.
2. Start a licensed security company at your church. This gives you a lot more options including Personal Protection (Level IV concealed) etc.
3. Become a licensed security officer and/or personal protection officer through an existing security company that will (for a fee) train, license, and employ you at your church through their security company.
All of the above including hiring LEOs is expensive. But a first less expensive and critical step is to have outside lighting!

RBH,
Is it possible both signs went up due to thinking if a 30.07 sign is posted, so too must a 30.06, as is the case with the misinformed...?
