Sign makers are not helping the CC cause
I didn't see anything about this previously posted. I was having lunch with a friend and fellow CHL holder a few days ago, and I was lamenting about all of the places I can no longer carry since open carry passed and the veil has lifted (I don't want to debate whether or not OC passing is the reason, because it is, and anything stated to the contrary is hogwash). My friend works for an international religious organization, which has a large mission for disaster preparedness / management. He mentioned that they had to change all of their signage locally because of an incident that occurred at one of their facilities. Throughout the process of consulting on the matter, he discovered that all three of their sign vendors were offering "packaged" signage which included both 30.07 and 30.06 signs. And of course why wouldn't they if it doubles their sales? You can't really blame them. To clarify, if you called in asking for a 30.07 sign, they would briefly educate you and up sell you to the package containing both signs. Just another unintended consequence of OC becoming law, and taking us backwards several years.

Well if that is the case, why don't they just NOT buy EITHER sign and do like several places I have seen and just put a little 11"x8" sign saying "no open carry" and then if someone does, just ask them to cover up or leave?

We have a sign shop, but don't do much store front stuff. Have not done any 30.06/30.07. I think the package deal is about right.
This is why it's important to point out to owners why a new 30.06 is a BAD idea. They are running off existing business. Pointing this out to sign shops might help also. When an owner finds out he was sold something that is hurting his business, he won't be too happy.
Also, might want to be extra picky about non-compliant 30.06 signs. Owners might just get the clue that a compliant sign is not worth the ugliness and hassle.
Also, if you see a non-compliant sign with the name of the printer on it, might want to point out to the owner that fact, and maybe even the printer. Make them do it right if they do it at all.

I am not sure about your message or what you are trying to say, but it appears that you would rather have more compliant signs posted than less.bbhack wrote:We have a sign shop, but don't do much store front stuff. Have not done any 30.06/30.07. I think the package deal is about right.

That position is against my beliefs and contrary to most of the people on this forum.
Sign makers make money by making signs.
If they can sell two signs instead of one, they make twice as much money.
It's simple arithmetic.
To further the cause for concealed carry, the focus needs be on educating the people buying and posting the signs, not the people printing the signs.

I don't suppose I'll ever understand why people are upset with freedom? This was all the rage also when CHL came about and nothing happened. It all went away. So will this, when all the cry babies and hand ringers realize it.
And I am NOT referring to the OP.

Maybe over simplified, but people are afraid of change. It makes them feel uncomfortable.Nortex wrote:I don't suppose I'll ever understand why people are upset with freedom? If I were a sign maker I would try to sell one 30.06 and try to add on 3-4 30.07 to cover each entrance. It's called capitalism. I would also be making signs welcoming LTC carry. You can't blame the sign makers. It's a business.

Because most LTCs do (or used to) respect even a non-compliant sign (correct wording, 1/2 letters for example). Why in the world would you point out a non-compliant 30.06 sign?
Pointing out how really ugly and unwieldy a compliant sign is causes
a) Nothing to happen
b) Owner to put up compliant signage
c) Owner to take down non-compliant sign
2 out of 3.

Re: Sign makers are not helping the CC cause
A sign maker who sells defective product (non-compliant), and which also has the side effect of hurting the business of the sign customer, is not in business for the long haul. He should hopefully realize that.I am not sure about your message or what you are trying to say, but it appears that you would rather have more compliant signs posted than less.

But maybe you're right. Sign makers come and go, and are not usually blessed with a high IQ.

I have absolutely no "respect" for a non-compliant sign. If it is close I would choose not to enter the store, but I could still legally enter while carrying if I so desired. By pointing out the non-compliant sign you are removing not only your right to legally decide to carry past that sign, but also every other LTCs legal ability to choose if they want to pass that sign once you help the owner make it compliant. But hey, the anti crowd will love you.

Re: Sign makers are not helping the CC cause
Maybe a sign maker should come up with a sign that says something like this:
“Pursuant to Section 30.07, Penal Code (trespass
by license holder with an openly carried handgun)
surely the anti-gun crowd has stopped reading by
now, so please just cover up your handgun and come
on in. with a handgun that is carried openly."

Re: Sign makers are not helping the CC cause
Maybe we should sell 30.07 signs and only 30.07 signs, at a reduced cost. I am at the point that I am relieved when I see a business posted 30.07 and not 30.06. That tells me that they probably won't post 30.06.
Maybe we could buy used 30.06 signs.

Sir, that is brilliant. Consider it done. Will post a picture when it's ready.Maybe a sign maker should come up with a sign that says something like this:
