my chl

Post by jkb8705 »

found this yesterday and thought I'd throw in my timeline and updates.

11/24 application submitted
12/4 supporting documents received
1/4 requested status via email (never got a response)
1/19 requested status via telephone (finishing my background check. please wait another 2-3 weeks)

I took my class in may of last year but just never got around to submitting everything and I'm paying for that now. pass the word that even if you have a busy schedule, make time, you're dealing with government. I'm getting impatient now though. I'll update y'all when I hear something else.

I took the class with a buddy in September. Helped him submit his application in October, and helped him schedule his fingerprints. Then he missed his October fingerprints and has not yet rescheduled. You're not the only one. However, one would expect the DPS to slow down over the holidays. Understandably you are getting impatient, however, you were in no hurry from May until November. So take a few deep breaths and you'll be good to go in a few more days.

I've been looking around for answers to how long a test certificate was good for and still haven't found a definitive answer as to whether they have an expiration if you take too long to submit them or anything.

Although if you're using a test cert from 7 months ago, then I suppose my procrastinating mother has time (test taken in December).

If you're asking how long do you have once you have passed your CHL-100 before you either have to apply w/state application or have to re-do your CHL-100 correct?? I'm 99% sure it is 2 years, I hope that answers your question.

I've heard 2 years from several people but 1 year is sticking with me for some reason. I would stick on the side of caution and do it within a year.

It should be 2 years for the CHL-100. The one year you are thinking about is probably the length of time DPS will keep an application on file once it is submitted.

It's one year to send in your CHL-100 after you have applied online. If you fail to submit your paperwork within that year, you have to apply again and pay another application fee.

Update: 2 weeks ago when I called for a status update I was told "they're almost finished with your background check, please allow another 2-3 weeks and you should see something in the mail, if not please call back."
I called back and was told "Everything looks good but still not finished with the background check and new applications are taking 3 months."
3 months!? the initial email said allow up to 6 weeks, they later said allow up to 60 days, now 3 months? I've made it through 2 months so far... lets hope it's not 3.

called again today for clarification. I was told that it is taking up to 3 months currently. There's nothing additional on my end that they need, it's simply their process. They are still waiting to hear from the FBI about my fingerprints. It should be "within the next 30 days." Also, something I think we often overlook is the when they say "days" they mean business days, not calendar days.

UPDATE:

I spoke with a young lady moments ago to check my application status. She "you were fingerprinted once in December, correct?" I said yes ma'am. She then said "I'm going to send a request over to out processing department because your prints haven't been accepted or rejected and I don't know why it would be taking so long. So I'll send that over and if you would call back in about a week and check."

This is really getting old... I've been seeing people who submitted their documents after me get theirs in a fraction of the time.

You are correct! I'm confused with their process too. My app done 12-4
CHL-100 sent 12-10 with confirmation 12-11
& fingerprinting done 12-17, & yet they have said a couple different times that they received them all & nothing missing & yet other folks who have sent theirs AFTER myself have already not only been approved verbally but have physically RECEIVED their plastic in hand already. I don't understand...I know my background isn't absolutely perfect but nothing disqualifying.. I'm suppose to be getting a phone call by today with an update,, hopefully they won't disappoint.
I keep saying be patient but almost 60 days for me & others 3-4 week turn around time. I'm confused... :waiting:

Hope you get good news... If it's taking them this long on my prints and it's neither been accepted or rejected then I'd hate to have to do them again. It's 50 days this week for me and I was initially told 6 weeks, then 60 days, then 3 months... I've been patient but when I see someone submit theirs in mid December and get plastic in January... I mean really?

Thanks,, I agree jkb with you. I think the frustration with me is couple weeks ago when I spoke to them they said all is well that just give us a call back (2wks) which was last week & I do & they say that my (doc's) have been received but nothing has been inputted into the system yet.

UPDATE:

I spoke with Daryl at 12:30pm, 2/11.
there was an IT issue with my file which is "rare" and it takes several weeks to fix. I'm am LIVID right now! he says I am overdue for receiving my license considering that people that submitted their documents 20 days after me have already received their licenses. I can schedule to have my fingerprints redone to speed up the process which means i'll have to pay again and what's even worse is that the next appointment available isn't for another 2 WEEKS! I am royally hacked off.
