Austin Bookstore Gives Discount to Open Carriers

TEXAS BOOKSTORE OFFERS OPEN CARRY DISCOUNT TO CUSTOMERS RESPONSIBLY CARRYING
An Austin, Texas bookstore is now offering an open carry discount: 10 percent off for all open-carrying customers.

Brave New Books, a local bookstore next to the University of Texas campus, will offer a 10 percent open carry discount on purchases to all customers who are open-carrying while shopping in the store.

They are the “only bookstore in Austin to allow open-carry.” This decision is meant to encourage public conversation on gun ownership. On January 30, they held an open-carry symposium so all residents could learn more about the process and legislation behind the decision.

That sounds like an idea fraught with danger for the LTC holder. They will have to make sure they are very carefully concealed on their way to the book store and then open carry in the store as it is not and will not be legal to open carry on campus. Given the proximity to the UT campus and the minefield of buildings owned/leased by the University, I would be VERY leery of OCing anywhere near the University in downtown Austin.

Cool idea, but one I'd be VERY careful about taking advantage of.

As long as you don't enter university property to get there it shouldn't be a problem. I like it at least they are showing that there is some common sense in Austin businesses. I also like the fact that they had an open discussion about it.
I did notice that there was no shootouts or blood in the store aisles. How was that even possible? :smilelol5:

Finally, a thinking business owner instead of those many with "Bad Guys, This Place is Safe for You" signs.

Know your path to get there. That is all I have to say.

Well, maybe not. Looking at their website, it seems they mostly cater to people interested in 9/11, prepper, anarchy, and general conspiracy books.

Still, might go check them out.

Are they allowing open carry, or are they requesting you open carry?

They are giving you a 10% discount to open carry. So, call that a friendly incentive.

It's near the corner of Guadalupe and MLK, far edge of campus on the other side of the street...and it's not like you're going to be able to park on campus so no worries.

I'm probably not the customer they're looking for, but I may have to check it out just to say I did. I've yet to see anyone open carrying in Austin, maybe this would be my chance.
