Re: Hassle at Lakeline Mall
I went to Lakeline today- walked the whole mall- shopped in several stores - all while Open Carrying- not a SINGLE issue or reaction from anyone - in the back of my mind, I was waiting - heck, even expecting security to be called - but there was no signage ANYWHERE that I saw - so I just went about my business .....2 hrs later ... had enough and went home - ( uneventful) - nice to see people aren't <freaking out>as social media portrays

I suppose you could write to mall management and protest that the individual stores are posting 30.06, but it seems like the most likely result there is getting the whole mall posted. I think it's owned/run by Simon, which also owns/runs the Round Rock Outlets, which are posted. My guess is that if Lakeline isn't posted it's because it hasn't crossed anyone's mind.
I went back and forth via email with Simon regarding The Domain. They refuse to post signs, but maintain their "policy" of no weapons allowed. Every time I asked a question of them, I got the canned "lawyer approved" response. So I'm not sure you'd get anywhere writing management. But good luck. I'm actually headed to Lakeline this evening and will carry as per usual. No signs, carry on.
As for the theater...why the heck are you going to that one? The Moviehouse & Eatery is just down the road on 620. Best theater I've ever been to. I know the owners personally and they are good, reasonable folks. No 06 posting there.

Wow! That's really surprising! When I talked to Simon, they seemed to indicate they would immediately kick out anyone they saw. Congrats!rachelhz wrote:I went to Lakeline today- walked the whole mall- shopped in several stores - all while Open Carrying- not a SINGLE issue or reaction from anyone - in the back of my mind, I was waiting - heck, even expecting security to be called - but there was no signage ANYWHERE that I saw - so I just went about my business .....2 hrs later ... had enough and went home - ( uneventful) - nice to see people aren't <freaking out>as social media portrays

Why are you discussing the Domain with Simon? They refuse to post signs? Are you asking them to post? It's not posted. Let it be.
Re: Hassle at Lakeline Mall
The conversation began not about signs, but about their "no weapons" policy and how it conflicts with the rights of apartment residents at The Domain, a mixed use development. Residents have a right, at the very least, to take weapons back and forth between their apartment and vehicle. But because of the way the development is laid out, this requires that they walk through the mall part of the development. I was questioning them on this contradiction because they've been very vocal about it (I interact with them on a professional level). When they repeatedly said, "Our policy prohibits weapons," I reminded them that they need to post if that is the case but that, even then, there is the question of going back and forth between your residence and vehicle. All a lot of grey area. All I could get out of them was, "We do not intend to post signs, but our policy remains."gljjt wrote:atx2a wrote:MotherBear wrote:Well, I suppose you've got three options: 1) Don't shop in those stores. 2) Don't shop in the mall at all. 3) Disarm and shop there anyway.Ruark wrote:But you can see the conundrum here. The horse continues to take a beating because the pot continues to be stirred. And in you're own words: "I reminded them that they need to post ... ". Don't say anything. There is no good that can come out of that discussion. Other than for you (it looks like you directly received oral notice) carry, at least CC is still Ok at the Domain.atx2a wrote:The conversation began not about signs, but about their "no weapons" policy and how it conflicts with the rights of apartment residents at The Domain, a mixed use development. A few finer points you would miss if not actually there and part of the conversation...
1. I am a contractor that works with them
2. They brought up the topic, not me, in a meeting
3. I responded (again) not regarding CC/OC, but regarding the rights of apartment residents
4. They brought the conversation around to CC/OC and I mentioned that they should be aware that people will continue to carry if no posting
5. Because I also live there, and the legality of the situation is pertinent to my living situation, I sought clarification from their headquarters via email. You can read my original post on the topic here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=81518&p=1038912#p1038912
You can call it stirring the pot if you'd like. I call it having a polite conversation with a customer which I could not avoid. Beyond that, this thread is meant to be about the OP and his trip to the theater, to which I replied with knowledge of the stance from Simon, a pertinent detail to his situation.
If you'd like to discuss the definition of "stirring the pot" further, I'm happy to respond to a separate post. Otherwise, your feedback has been noted and appropriately filed.

Re: Hassle at Lakeline Mall
And you are missing the point. I understand your need to converse with them, but don't tell them what they need to do to prevent carry, #4 above. You are providing too much input. File it, trash it, ignore it... I don't care. But those that don't get that you don't tell the enemy what will happen if they don't post, aren't helpful. You have gotten yourself oral notice so you can't carry there, at least in the retail areas but please don't mess it up for the rest of us. I'm done on this thread....atx2a wrote:gljjt wrote:The horse continues to take a beating because the pot continues to be stirred. And in you're own words: "I reminded them that they need to post ... Re: Hassle at Lakeline Mall
I don't frequent malls, but last time I was in one I noticed an individual store with either a 07 sign or both 06/07. I noted it because it seemed strange for a single store to post signs, but didn't pay too close attention because it was a store that I might have been interested in back when I was in my teens or maybe early 20's, but is now way outside of my demographic. carry on.
Studio Movie Grill is another theater chain that seems to be doing things right. No signs, assigned seating with huge chairs, more legroom than I could possibly use, and good food. I haven't been to Alamo Drafthouse yet, but probably will once they open up one near me. I don't always go to the theaters, but when I do, I stay away from AMC/Cinemark.

Really? After Simon Mall's statewide ban, I took Lakeline Mall off my list. Mind telling us how/what you were carrying?rachelhz wrote:I went to Lakeline today- walked the whole mall- shopped in several stores - all while Open Carrying- not a SINGLE issue or reaction from anyone - in the back of my mind, I was waiting - heck, even expecting security to be called - but there was no signage ANYWHERE that I saw - so I just went about my business .....2 hrs later ... had enough and went home - ( uneventful) - nice to see people aren't <freaking out>as social media portrays

Re: Hassle at Lakeline Mall
My wife was in Austin all week for business conference. She called me today, told me she was at a mall (not sure which...maybe the one being discussed). She told me she checked the mall entrance, and found no signage, so she carried her concealed G26 IWB. As she walked out of Hot Topic, to her horror she finally sees that they have the 30.06 posted down in the corner of one of the windows, amongst tons of other crap. So apparently it's not just the theaters doing this in malls.
She also ran across something I'd not considered. At her conference...she was at a meeting with low level state officials (and people from hospitals statewide) all week, dealing with Trauma stuff. On the last day, the entrance to the meeting room had both 30.06 and 30.07 signs posted, which had not been posted the other days. The only change was the level of authority of the presiding state bigwig.

Re: Hassle at Lakeline Mall
I am a little confused by 30.06 only signs. I assume businesses post them assuming that this means NO weapons can be brought onto the premises but 30.06 is specific to CC. So couldn't a person switch from CC to OC and lawfully/legally enter until such time as one is given a verbal/written notification that OC is prohibited as well? Of course, they could just call the police without giving notice, again thinking that their 30.06 covers all situations, which would then boil down to a "he said/he said" situation in regard to any kind of verbal/written notification being given in regard to OC. Being new to the whole handgun, LTC, CC, OC world perhaps I am missing something in regard to 30.06 only signage and what it means.

Re: Hassle at Lakeline Mall
Technically, you're correct. 30.06 only covers concealed carry. However, if you were to just uncover and walk in anyway, you're almost guaranteed to be promptly told to leave. That's the best scenario. At worst, they would skip straight to calling the police.PhilBob wrote:I am a little confused by 30.06 only signs.
