Kendall County Courthouse

Post by mojo84 »

Just received a notification Kendall County Courthouse has been posted. Very frustrating as the courts are on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The metal detectors are on the second floor as one exits the elevators and stairs. I reached out to a friend that is closely involved in the courthouse security to find out what's up.

Well, from what I was told, the 30.06 and 30.07 signs are for the 2nd floor (where the courtrooms are located), 3rd floor (where the commissioners court meeting room is located) and the county clerk's office on the first floor.

I feel like I'm conversing with my through social media.

Now to my question, is the county clerk's office essential to the operation of the courts and is it valid to post it pursuant to 30.06 and 30.07?

So the entire building is posted with 30.06/07 signs, even though the first floor has no courts on it and physical security is limited to the 2nd and 3rd floors? There is a claim, apparently, that the court clerk on the first floor needs protecting from all those back-ground-checked tax-paying non-felonious LTC carriers who obey signs, but apparently not from the sign-ignoring, criminally-intentioned, illegally armed folk?

Sure.

The siting of the metal detectors pretty clearly indicates where the court and the commissioners think the real problem with armed people would come, and it wasn't in the clerk's office, nor anywhere else on the 1st floor.

When cops abuse their discretion long enough, legislatures and courts draw tighter lines for them in the law. The same should go for governments. The Fines-for-Signs law was an EXCELLENT first step, but there obviously there is a need for some tightening and clarification about "courts" and their offices.

It would be an interesting statistic to see how many problems have occurred in places other than an actual court room. There are plenty of Youtube videos on court room outbursts, and I seem to remember the occasional fracas in a judge's office, but I don't recall any in other types of offices, like clerks and so forth. Some on courthouse steps or immediately outside.

As soon as I get free from work for a good bit I will pursue Fayette County. I think they made the whole courthouse off limits.

I'll let you know.
