DALLAS CONVENTION CENTER ?

Post by eltacs »

Is 30.06 carry legal ?

I have a daughter's cheer competition that is taking place there this FRI/SAT/SUN and we have to walk 5-6 blocks
to and from the event in order to get to the hotel...

THANKS IN ADVANCE..

If it is an interscholastic event, then you cannot carry, even if they have not posted signs. If it is not, you should be fine. That said, I do not know if they have illegally posted signs as I haven't been to the convention center in some time.

Well, I was curious so I did a bit of digging for you. The event in question doesn't look to be school sponsored, so I think you're okay on that front. As far as the venue's attitude toward carrying, this is from their FAQ:

What is your HANDGUN policy?

Licensed handguns (both concealed carry and open carry) are permitted on premise, as allowed by state law, unless the type of event being held at the KBHCCD falls under an exception that would prohibit a person with a license to carry a handgun at the event. Any exceptions will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the Director and will be in accordance with state law.

Handguns must be carried in a manner that is allowed by state law.

Unlicensed handguns are NOT PERMITTED on the premises.

Police department or Security staff may request proof of handgun license. Your understanding and cooperation is appreciated.

THANKS for the info..

No it is not a UIL / SCHOOL event... ---> RATHER an "NCA" event, a Private organization
* similar to select baseball, in the cheer world..

I did look up their page and found the exact info you just posted.

I just wanted to be sure. Had not noticed anything he last two yrs that the event took place in the the same venue.
But this time with us staying at the Adolphus hotel - and walking 5-6 blocks before and after the event - I wanted to be prepared.

They need to correct their website because Texas does not license handguns. The license is for a PERSON to carry a handgun. :biggrinjester:
